It's time to finally find out whom you chose to cast in the movie of Stephenie Meyer's "The Host"!
If you have not read the book, here is a synopsis, but there are spoilers ahead in this post!
According to Amazon.com, from Publishers Weekly, "In this tantalizing SF thriller, planet-hopping parasites are inserting their silvery centipede selves into human brains, curing cancer, eliminating war and turning Earth into paradise. But some people want Earth back, warts and all, especially Melanie Stryder, who refuses to surrender, even after being captured in Chicago and becoming a host for a soul called Wanderer. Melanie uses her surviving brain cells to persuade Wanderer to help search for her loved ones in the Arizona desert. When the pair find Melanie's brother and her boyfriend in a hidden rebel cell led by her uncle, Wanderer is at first hated. Once the rebels accept Wanderer, whom they dub Wanda, Wanda's whole perspective on humanity changes. While the straightforward narrative is short on detail about the invasion and its stunning aftermath, it shines with romantic intrigue, especially when a love triangle (or quadrangle?!) develops for Wanda/Melanie."
Disclaimer: (wink) I do not know Stephenie Meyer, I have not heard of any rights being bought by a studio for this novel, I have no idea if they plan to film a movie. This is simply opinion, voted on by you, the readers, and it’s all for fun and perspective.
Melanie Stryder:
According to Wikipedia, “Melanie is a 20-year-old human who managed to escape capture by the invading souls for years, living on the run. Eventually she is captured, and a soul known as Wanderer is implanted in Mel's body. Mel continues to fight after Wanderer is implanted in her body, speaking to Wanderer and feeding her memories of the people she loves in hopes that Wanderer will one day lead her back to them. Mel likes the feeling of being physically strong and berates Wanderer for neglecting to keep her that way. She has a temper and may be considered volatile compared to docile Wanderer. Melanie is passionately in love with another human named Jared, and shares a strong mother-like bond with her younger brother. She grows to care for Wanderer deeply as a sister, as well. Melanie is described as beautiful, tall and athletic, naturally tan skin, a square face, dark brown hair, and hazel eyes.”

This one was extremely close, with both of them taking more than 40% of the vote each. Therefore I chose to write about both of them. Sophia Bush is best known for her work on the TV show “One Tree Hill” and the movie “John Tucker Must Die” and Missy Peregrym is best known for the movie “Stick It” and the TV shows “Heroes” and “Reaper”. While we’ve all seen Missy Peregrym play a tough, butt-kicking type character, it’s yet to be seen if Sophia Bush has that side to her. But both of them are of the right age for this role, and would certainly fill it well.
Wanderer/Wanda:
According to Wikipedia, “Wanderer is the invading soul that inhabits Melanie Stryder's body. She received her name due to the number of planets she has lived in, having never settled on one she truly liked. She is later nicknamed "Wanda" by Mel's eccentric Uncle Jeb. Like all souls, she is naturally inclined to do good and is disgusted by violence. She feels incredibly guilty about the unrest her presence causes amongst Melanie's loved ones, and throughout the book she puts others before herself. She feels an initial affection for Jared, Melanie's lover, and Jamie, Mel's little brother, due to the memories she was fed by her host, and eventually develops her own relationship with both of them. She also grows to love her host, Mel, like a sister, and, when Mel appears to have disappeared from the body they both inhabit, is incredibly upset by her apparent disappearance. She eventually forces Mel to reawaken and promises to give her back the control of her body. She falls in love with Ian O'Shea and feels guilty that she was unable to reciprocate his feelings earlier. Wanderer is several thousand years old and looks like other souls -- a luminous, silvery, caterpillar-like entity -- but because she inhabits Melanie Stryder, she bears all of Mel's physical characteristics. Later in the book she is implanted in the body of another girl, who is petite and delicate with gold hair, freckled skin, silver eyes, and a dimple in her chin. In that body she cannot do much for herself, in the book saying she was always given the easiest jobs but half the time having the work pulled out of her hands anyway. She can't carry her own cot either, when she tried to, she has to have Ian carry it.”

Jayne Wisener is a sweet, soft-spoken style of actress who played Sweeney Todd’s daughter “Johanna” in Tim Burton’s “Sweeney Todd”. She doesn’t have a lot of credits on her resume yet, but she has all the talent and right qualities to play Wanda exceptionally well. She is a fantastic choice for this part, and I personally could see this one very easily fitting into the novel.
Ian O'Shea:
According to Wikipedia, “One of the rebel humans, his prejudice against the souls had driven him to a point in time when he had almost killed Wanda. He had a change of heart when he and Jared had discussed the Seeker. One of the first characters to also see through his hate of Souls. He believes that she is an innocent girl who does not deserve to be punished because she inhabits Melanie's body. Ian O'Shea is one among the humans to treat Wanda with anything but hostility. He eventually falls in love with Wanda and is shown to be extremely devoted to her. Ian does not get along well with Jared Howe, due partially to Wanda's affection for Jared and partially because of Jared's willingness to harm Wanda for his own personal gain. Ian is the only person who understands how Wanda thinks, and feels responsible for her since she is so self-sacrificing. Ian is described as being "kind enough to be a soul but strong as only a human could be", beautiful, having pale skin, dark hair, and striking blue eyes.”

Coincidentally he shares the same name as the character he’s been chosen to play! Ian Somerhalder was fantastic as Boone on ABC’s “Lost”, but at the age of 30 he may be a bit old for this particular role. However, Hollywood has it’s magic, and he certainly has the acting chops to pull off this role.
Kyle O'Shea:
According to Wikipedia, “Ian's older and very stubborn brother. During most of the book, he holds a fierce hatred for Wanda and tries to kill her. He is described as looking almost exactly like Ian, and can also sound like him when he is calm. He had a girlfriend named Jodi who was caught and implanted, and he tries to rescue her by removing the soul from her brain. Jodi does not regain consciousness, and so he replaces the soul named Sunny (Sunlight Passing through the ice) who has grown to love Kyle through Jodi's memories.”

Chris Evans can be seen most recently in the movie “Push” alongside Dakota Fanning, who plays Jane in the movie “New Moon”, which is also written by Stephenie Meyer. Chris Evans can play a bit of a jerk pretty well, but he also seems to have a lot of soul to him, so I agree that he would effectively play this role.
Jared Howe:
According to Wikipedia, “Jared is Melanie Stryder's lover. Circumstances always improve for the rebel humans he runs into, due to his great skill. He is seen as loving and somewhat excitable in Melanie's memories, though the loss of her renders him very bitter. He bears a grudge against Wanda and is unable to empathize with her for most of the book. He eventually develops a closer relationship with her in addition to his extreme devotion to Melanie. He is somewhat of a rival to Ian O'Shea, because Ian sees Jared as a competition for Wanda's affections. He is described as physically beautiful, with tan skin, sienna-colored eyes, and sun-bleached hair.”

Again, we have a near-tie. As you can see, this one was extremely close as well, so I gave it to both of them. Ryan Reynolds is handsome, charming, funny but also dashing. He does well in both action-oriented roles and romantic roles. Jensen Ackles is sexy and studly on the TV show “Supernatural” and I could see him playing the rescuer of Melanie very well. Both of these men are great choices, I think, and Ryan Reynolds can certainly bring the box office numbers in.
Jamie Stryder:
According to Wikipedia, “Jamie is Melanie's younger brother and is 14 years old when he first meets Wanda. He develops a relationship with Wanda due to her closeness to his sister; eventually, he develops a strong brotherly bond with Wanda himself. He considers Wanda "angelic" and enjoys her stories about other planets. He is very close to Jared, though their relationship becomes tense due to Jared's shabby treatment of Wanda. Jamie is shown to want to be treated like a man; when he falls ill he is uncomfortable with the coddling he receives and yearns to go on raids with Jared and the other men. He is described as being the only person not to have difficulty with Wanda's transfer into a new body, possibly always seeing Mel and Wanda as two distinct beings. Jamie is described as having shaggy black curls and chocolate brown eyes.”

This kid is great! I loved him in “Bridge to Terabithia” but I must say that as he’s already about to be seventeen, he might wind up being way too old for this role. But, as a fan favorite, how can I argue that he fits perfectly into one’s mind when you think of this character.
Uncle Jebediah:
According to Wikipedia, “Jebediah "Jeb" is Melanie's eccentric uncle. He was one of the first humans to suspect an alien invasion, and thus constructed an elaborate hide-out in caves beneath the Arizona desert. He believes that Wanda can fit in with the humans, and therefore puts both her and the others in very uncomfortable social situation. However, he remains convinced that no one will hurt Wanda due to his habit of strolling around with a gun and warning others that they are in "his house, his rules". Despite his flighty demeanor, he seems to have a handle on everything in the caves and tends to give very good advice. He is described as having a wild beard.”

Sam Elliot is fantastic. I could absolutely see him strutting through the caves with a plan, hanging in there with Wanderer and Melanie.
Doc:
According to Wikipedia, “A tall, slim human rebel that has medical training and serves as the rebels' doctor. He is shown to be compassionate and emotional, though he initially makes Wanda uncomfortable as he seems to view her as more of a science experiment than a person. He has alcohol problems and often gets drunk to drown his sorrow when he fails at a medical task. He has a shaky relationship with Melanie's cousin Sharon; though the issues are not specified, they appear to resolve them at the end of the book. His real name is Eustace.”

This one was a bit confusing to me, since this is a (very) supporting role, and we all chose big name actors for it. I can’t imagine many people being happy with Christian Bale simply drinking and sitting in the background for most of the scenes. But, any scene with Christian Bale is a great one, so… oh poo, I’ll just have to grin and bear it.
The Seeker:
According to Wikipedia, “One of the invading souls. Melanie and Wanda's relationship is initially based on their hate for the Seeker, who is described as being irritable for the usually gentle souls. She mocks Wanda for not being able to completely drive out Melanie's spirit. It is later revealed that this is because of her insecurity at not being able to fully drive out the spirit of her body's former tenant, similar to Wanda's predicament. When her invading soul is driven out, the host body remembers her name - Lacey.”

I love Parker Posey, ever since I saw her in “The House of Yes”. I think she’d pull off this role exceptionally well, though I personally would be more fearful of Helena Bonham Carter.

I like all the choices but I prefer Missy as Mel, she just looks the part better, Brittany as Wanda, I love Ian Somerhalder as Ian even if he is older than what Ian in the book is he doesn't look it XD I'm okay with Chris as Kyle, I think I prefer Ryan over Jenson for Jared because Ryan just suits the image better I think. I love Josh as Jamie I think he can pull off the innocence that Jamie has while also being the strong person that he is growing to be. I love Sam as Jeb. When I looked at him I knew he was Uncle Jeb =D I don't think Christian Bale should be Doc but I'm not too sure on who I'd have play as Doc either. I prefer Helena as the Seeker, she just seems to fit the personality needed for the role best. Well that's my view on the casting ^.^
I think the Seeker should be played by Andrea Moore III. She is a guest star on Season 7 of One Tree Hill, She playes McKenna, who is the girl from the Record Label that helps out Haley. She would be perfect. She is a new actress though so I can't find her pic anywhere.
Ok, I got her name wrong..its not Andrea Moore, it is India de Beaufort...she would be the perfect seeker.

The cast is looking good. It's kinda hard to choose between Jensen and Ryan for the part of Jared Howe. They are both really cute guys. I think Missy Peregrym would be a better Mel. I've read the book so many times, and I can see her playing the hardcore girl. I love the chooses for Ian and Kyle. I can so see them in the movie. Now i just wish the movie would hurry up.
The cast was pretty good. But I never pctured uncle Jeb to look like that. haha. But the cast vote for wanderer was like amazing cause thats almost exactly as I pictured her at the end. :)
I don't like that Josh is Jamie.He's too short and he just doesn't fit :P

I do really like Christian Bale as Doc and Kristin Bell as Wanderer but they are bigger names for smaller roles. When I read the book, I pictured Josh Lucas and Jeremy Sheffield as Jared but they are too old for that role. I also like Kellan Lutz as Ian and Rachelle Lefevre, but they were in Twilight so that's why I didn't choose them. And Jared Padalecki could be Kyle but since I picked Jensen Ackles as Ian that would be too Supernatural!

This is really cool.. I completeley agree with all of these!!!!.. personally the roles for the oshea brothers are not amazin.. cause they are supposed to b HUGE!!!.. and the characters dnt cut it!!. but this is an amazin cast.. hopefully they are the ones tht play them!!.. if so then this will b an amazin movie fer sure!!!.. even tho i would really hope tht they make this into a two movie things or as big as avatar or titanic was.. then it would b amazin.. if they make it into a small pg movie it will suck fer sureness!!!..

Jared dsnt fit either. I have always pictured him with long hair so that when Melanie/Wand kiss him there is some hair to run her fingers through !! I believe Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) fits him perfectly.
As for Ian and KYle, they should both look alike and Ian Somerhalder does not look like Chris Evans. I think Kyle should be Chris Pine, as he looks a lottttt like Ian Somerhalder.

I really think that Will Patton should be Uncle Jeb though, he really has the look and I think he would do a great job with him.
But as for the rest I would like to see some not so famous people play them and even some already suggested. I think it would really take away from the film if every single character, you recognized from some other movie or show. I think the movie would just play out as a big cluttered mess and this should definitely be a good opportunity to find some good new talent, that would really make the movie something.
