A 22-year-old East Bay resident ended up dodging bullets after a Craigslist used car posting led him to East Palo Alto (crime report map above) in California's San Mateo County.
Alex Garcia arrived in East Palo Alto packing $1,300 in cash, according to the local police. Individuals of an aggressive nature soon accosted him, and shots were fired.
The seller led Garcia from their initial meeting place to a parking lot on East Bayshore, where the three other individuals became involved.
It's well worth noting that Craigslist is making a serious effort to combat fraud in its car section, but the sheer volume of posts makes the job a tough one.
In this case, it's equally well worth noting that bringing wads of cash to a meeting with individuals of unknown provenance is not a good idea. Especially when the destination is East Palo Alto, a region well known for violent crime, including rape, murder, and both at the same time.

This is my son. I hope they catch the people that did this. Our family frequently uses Craigslist, and this has shocked me.
I feel sick about it.
I am a very close friend to the victims family! All my prayers are with you guys right now. I love you Dorsi!! STAY STRONG!!!
This type of Craigslist armed robbery happens in good neighborhoods also. My husband, brother-in-law, and 10 year old son were robbed at gun point in Orinda, CA last night after answering an ad for a car.
