Ninkasi Brewing Company is a name that kept popping up during Seattle Beer Week; head brewer Jamie Floyd was all over town promoting his brews. This Eugene, OR-based brewery has been around since 2006, though they are not yet a common feature on the Seattle beer circuit. My guess is that this will change soon.
I picked up a bottle of Ninkasi Total Domination IPA at the Seattle Beer Authority grand opening a few weeks back, purely on a whim, and was delighted with what I found: a beer perfect for warm, sunny weather. The beer pours with a golden, vaguely cloudy body and a thick, beige head. It has a very strong tropical fruit aroma that is matched with the flavor of pineapple and papaya, which gives way to a hoppy finish. The name implies that this beer will completely dominate your senses, but is actually well-balanced, drinkable, and overall very enjoyable.

Tasted Ninkasi Total Domination IPA at a First Alternative (Coop) in Corvallis June 2009 get-together (Bridgeport has been my standard for many moons). Knocked me off my horse! I'm going to introduce this beer to some folks who will be camped in the John Day country soon. What could be better than this IPA after a daily 50+ mile bike ride...
