Things are always busy down at Lagunitas Brewing Company. As one of the largest breweries in the Bay Area (and growing) it's exciting to see what's new and coming down the line from these dog-loving brewers.
On store shelves, expect to see the last few bottles of Lucky 13 quickly disappear as they are replaced by the new 22-ounce seasonal Little Sumpin' Wild Ale. Little Sumpin' Wild Ale is based on last year's Little Sumpin' Extra Ale and brewed with Westmalle yeast. For those familiar with Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, this beer is bigger, hoppier and essentially an imperialized version of the original.
If you've fallen in love with Little Sumpin' Sumpin' again this summer, don't worry about not finding this beer on the shelves through the winter, as Lagunitas has added this beer to the year-round 6-pack offerings. To make room, Maximus, Lagunitas' Imperial IPA, will move back to the 22-ounce bottle.
If you're heading to the taproom, two special brews should be hitting the taps in the next few weeks. The first is a fresh hop ale. Wet hops, Citra and Simcoe, fresh from the hop fields were added to a tank of New Dogtown Pale Ale for this year's harvest ale. Replacing traditionally kilned hops with these fresh "wet" hops results in a more resinous, herbal and definitely fresh hop flavor. Expect this beer to be ready around the end of the month with a few kegs making their way off the brewery grounds.
The next beer will be exclusive to the brewpub and is a pet project of head brewer Jeremy Marshall. Using browned coconut ("beyond toasted") and almonds, Marshal continues on his quest to produce an Almond Joy beer. The coconut has proven to be an interesting fruit to work with and more experimentation may be necessary, a prospect Marshall seems rather excited about.
For other beers, don't be surprised to see experimentation with various exotic fruits.
Coming up down the road, Brown Shugga should be available in bottles in October or November while Cappuccino Stout will make its debut in December.
Keep an eye out for these new beers both on shelves and in the pub over the next month.
