On Saturday, April 17 from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm Trinity (1466 Garden of the Gods # 184, Colorado Springs, CO, 719.634.0029 ) will be hosting their second annual Saison & Farmhouse Ale Festival.

Price of admission is $35 ($30 if you purchase your ticket early) and includes unlimited but "responsible" tasting, a commemorative glass, and a special menu from their kitchen built from 100% Colorado ingredients. They're only selling a 125 tickets, so you better get them while they last (only at the brewpub).

Jason "The Dreaded One" Yester just sent over a tentative list of who and what will be at this incredible festival. I cannot state this any more emphatically: You don't want to miss this festival!  So sit back and drool:

Cherry Bomb, Pumphouse Brewery (Longmont, CO). A Saison brewed with cherries, and fermented with Brettanomyces.  ABV N/A.  Brewer, Dave ‘The King’ Mentus.

Colette, Great Divide Brewing (Denver, CO).  An homage to the beers that French and Belgian farm workers have enjoyed for centuries. Brewed with barley, wheat and rice and fermented at high temperatures with a special blend of four different yeast strains, Colette is fruity and slightly tart, with a dry finish that makes it that rarest of treats - a beer as refreshing as it is complex.  7.3% ABV.  Brewer, Brian Dunn.

Dark Heather Saison, New Belgium (Fort Collins, CO). This winter saison starts with pale and black barley malts creating a deep midnight hue with reddish highlights. The beer is spiced with cardamom, heather and black pepper for a touch of sweet that fades to a warm, peppery finish. Target and Saaz hops accentuate the spicing while the peppery notes balance nicely with the fruitiness of the saison yeast.  7.5% ABV.  Brewer, Peter Bouckaert.

Debut, Black Fox Brewing (Colorado Springs, CO). Brewed with fresh lemon zest and fresh ground ginger root, Debut is a farmhouse style ale characteristic of southern Belgium. Distinguished by it's light orange hue and citrusy aroma, this beer has a light body and a dry finish, accented by spicy esters from the Saison yeast. An ABV of 6.6% delights the mood as much as the palate.  Brewer, John Schneider.

Don't Call Me Wit, Black Fox Brewing (Colorado Springs, CO).  Their "White Saison" starts out like a Witbier with coriander and orange peel. Then the chaos begins: orange zest, lemon zest, a generous aroma hop addition and an unconventional yeast blend give this citrusy, floral delight a dry finish and a deceptively smooth taste that masks it's 6.6% ABV. Be careful or you might just find yourself punk in drublic.  Brewer, John Schneider.

Farmhouse Ale, Dry Dock Brewing (Denver, CO).  A new twist on an age old style.  The Great American Beer Festival's 2009 Small Brewery of the Year used pink pepper corns and coriander to flavor this lightly acidic and dry drink.  7.0% ABV. Brewer, Bill Eye.

Farmhouse Provisional, Trinity Brewing.  An ancient wild Saison!  If you ever wanted to time and space travel to rural southern Belgium during the 1800’s, this is the beer to do it with. The malt bill consists of a combination of barley, oats, wheat, rye and spelt. For the fermentation we use a blend of Saison yeast with wild Brettanomyces, then we spice this beer with lavender and age it on French oak.  6.5% ABV.  Brewer, Jason Yester.

Golden Cap Saison, New Holland Brewing (Holland, MI).  A modern interpretation of a traditional farmhouse ale. A soft, pale beer, Golden Cap embodies the flavors and aromas of summer fields. Brewed with an ancestor of wheat called spelt, its straw-colored body, lively carbonation and a unique fermentation profile evoke fresh cut hay and cracked peppercorn. 16° Plato, Alc. 6.25% by Vol.  Brewer, John Haggerty and Tim Meyers.

Le Bruit du Diable, Strange Brewery (Denver, CO).  A classic Belgian farmhouse ale. They start with high quality Belgian Pilsner malt and add some Caramel Vienne and Caramel Munich for color and complexity. Just the right amount of Czech Saaz hops are added to provide refreshing balance. They then ferment it above 80° F with a very special yeast strain from the Wallonia region of Belgium. This unique yeast gives the Diable its earthy, fruity, spiciness and dry malt character.

Lapin Baiseuse, Phantom Canyon (Colorado Springs, CO).  A Saison brewed with Hibiscus flowers, fresh ginger root, orange and lemon peel. This ale is tart and refreshing, with a floral aroma and fruit accents.  7.2% ABV. Brewer, Les Meeks.

Oceanic Organic Saison, Kona Brewing Co. (Kona, HI).  Oceanic Organic is the FIRST CERTIFIED ORGANIC BEER BREWED IN HAWAII!  A Belgian Style Saison brewed with all organic malt and hops, spiced with a touch of organic coriander and grains of paradise and fermented with a custom blend of Belgian yeasts selected specifically for this brew.  Oceanic Organic is golden-straw colored and unfiltered. It has a crisp, dry quenching flavor and distinctive spicy aroma with notes of lemon peel, clove, white pepper and fresh hops complemented by pleasant earthy cellar notes and rustic hop flavor. Oceanic will be served in snifters to accentuate its unique flavor and aroma profile.  ABV N/A.  Brewer, Rich Tucciarone.

Pappy Legba, Trinity Brewing.  Brewed with just a touch of flaked maize for a seductive and creamy texture, this crimson Saison is undeniably focused on fruit. Post fermentation this special Belgian is aged on a grip of pie cherries, lending it more of a Kriek profile rather than Saison. 13% ABV!!!  Brewer, Darren Baze.

Saison Du'Rango, Ska Brewing (Durango, CO). A blond Farmhouse Ale brewed with lemon peel, grains of paradise, and green pepper corns.  This beer is refreshing and lightly tart from the use of a blend of French and Belgian Saison yeasts. 6.0% ABV. Brewer, Thomas Larson.

Saison Jonquille, Rock Bottom (Colorado Springs, CO).  A pale golden color medium to light body. Fruity and a little spicy, a very straight forward traditional saison.  6% ABV.  Brewer, Jason Leeman.

Springtime Saison, Pumphouse Brewing (Longmont, CO).  A Saison brewed with both chamomile and lavender.  ABV N/A.  Brewer, Dave ‘The King’ Mentus.

Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, Boulevard Brewing (Kansas City, MO).  Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickety. Here at Boulevard it’s fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.  8.5% ABV.  Brewer, Steve Pauwels.
