Kyle Hollingsworth makes music and craft beer

If you were in downtown Denver last night but not at Great Divide Brewing for Kyle's Brew Fest... you receive the "Epic Fail" badge of dishonor.

Kyle Hollingsworth of The String Cheese Incident - the popular jam band from Colorado - is not only a husband, father and musician... he's also a beer geek and home brewer.

Kyle and his band were at GDBC last night not only to showcase their music, but to reveal Hoppingsworth IPA (the beer he brewed with Avery, Upslope, Odell and Mountain Sun), as well as kick off String Cheese's sold-out, three night gig at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater.  All 500 of the $25 tickets were sold-out for the brew fest, and even though it rained (hard) briefly, it didn't dampen the spirits of the attendees. Mountain Sun provided grilled goodies while great hand crafted brew was poured by GDBC, Mountain Sun, Odell,  Avery, Boulder Beer, Ska, Trinity, Upslope, Deschutes and Stone.

All of the proceeds from this kick-off party/mini-beer festival (as well as the concerts performed by SCI at Red Rocks) will go to Conscious Alliance, a non-profit group helping to feed the hungry.

As for Hoppingsworth IPA... Kyle brewed four different batches, one each at Avery, Upslope, Odell and Mountain Sun.  While all were excellent, I preferred the Mountain Sun version because it had a nice balance between the hops and malt. Luckily, it will be available at the Vine Street Pub in Denver and Mountain Sun in Boulder all weekend.  To see a bit of what went into the brewing process, check out this film Kyle made:

And hit the slideshow below to see images from the festival.  More video and pictures are available on Beer Tap TV's Facebook page and website.

Included in the price of admission was a limited edition Kyle’s Brew Fest logo pint glass. While surfing the Interwebs this morning I stumbled across someone looking to purchase an extra one. Apparently he dropped - and broke - his at the festival.  A great time was obviously had by all, and with any luck Kyle and the gang will do this again soon.
