"Because we all need another excuse to drink beer!"
Truer words were never spoken. Today is International Beer Day, and on the surface it may seem as if IBD is in fact just another excuse to drink beer. Not so. In reality it's a global day of celebration honoring the thing we all love the most - the liquid gold we call beer.
IBD was founded in 2007 by Jesse Avshalomov, Evan Hamilton, Aaron Araki, and Richard Hernandez with a threefold purpose:
- To gather with friends and enjoy the deliciousness that is beer.
- To celebrate the dedicated men and women who brew and serve our beer.
- To bring the world together under the united banner of beer by celebrating the beers of all nations and cultures together on this one remarkable day.
The origins of IBD started humbly enough. After coming up with the concept they made a website and convinced their local bar to celebrate it on August 5th. Soon after they began receiving emails from beer lovers as far away as England and South Africa saying they found the website and had held their own celebrations. It was then that the IBD gang knew they had to take their celebration global.
Ever since we’ve been working each year to bring the celebration to more and more people, and this year we’ve hit nearly 100 celebrations! We’re working super hard to make this year’s celebration Epic, we’ve even had a classy logo and new website designed, so we hope you have yourself an awesome International Beer Day. - Jesse Avshalomov
As a beer lover and reader of this column I urge you to check out their website and help spread the word about this most glorious of celebrations to as many people as possible. Because yes, we do need another excuse to drink beer... and this one is better than most.
So be sure to raise a pint and toast International Beer Day!
Zivjeli!
