Well, the beer is on tap at Taco Mac and I had one last night at Taco Mac Decatur. Funds from the sales of this beer go to a very worthy cause, but you won't feel like you're sacrificing anything to charity when you try it.
The Reunion beers are a collaborative effort between brewers and breweries. In this year's offering, the recipe was the work of Terrapin brewer Spike Buckowski and it was brewed at Bison Brewing in San Francisco (an attempt to link to Bison's website failed, possibly a temporary problem).
The beer is classified as a double wit, and has some of the characteristics of a traditional wit (like say,Hoegaarden) and some of a Belgian Tripel (like, say, Tripel Karmeliet). Citrusy and slightly sweet, but with enough hop presence to balance, and that typical Belgian character that you find in the classic tripels - yeasty bread with a bit of Belgian candi sugar icing.
An excellent beer for summer drinking, and benefitting an excellent cause. How can you go wrong?
