Much has been said nationally about protesters at Congressional town hall meetings nationally. Constituents of all ages are very passionate about the health care debate, with individuals young and old alike falling on both sides of the debate. And unfortunately, we have seen these passions at times boil over in the form of yelling down elected officials.
Signs have garnered their fair share of conversation as well, with alleged ACORN staff and scrubs reportedly showing up to more than one town hall meeting on buses with professionally made signs. And there are their fair share of signs on both ends of the spectrum, to be sure.
The signs that I have seen at both Pete Sessions' and Michael Burgess' town hall meetings have been generally toned down, with some anti-Obama and anti-U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signage. And I can only assume that supporters are so outnumbered (at least in North Texas) that they have refrained from rhetorical flourish, simply stating their support for the legislation now before Congress.
The slide show below includes a sampling of signage from U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess' town hall meeting Saturday morning in Denton.
From Katy Sams, UNT Senior (academic, not age!) and first-time political activist: "Support health care for everyone." Ms. Sams said, "I told several people, 'This is the first time I have ever been involved in politics,' and they all replied, 'Me too!' "
