Citizens town hall concept...ask your Congressman a question

I have attended two town hall meetings thus far, and am planning on attending at least one panel discussion featuring U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX 32) and U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX 30).  The only problem at these events has been that far more people than usual are attending, making it that much more difficult to have the opportunity to ask our elected officials questions of concern to us.

For example, one attendee at U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess' (R-TX 26) town hall meeting in Denton last Saturday said to me, "I wish that more questions were asked about energy and cap and trade!"

One respondent to an earlier column asked why Sessions supported giving $1.6 million to a company that supposedly manufactures dirigibles (think Hindenburg)...but hasn't ever actually built one!

I think that these and other questions begging to be asked are appropriate and important enough to warrant that we citizens come together and put together a video of ordinary people asking such questions.  So I propose that we do just that.

I propose that we hold an event on a come-and-go basis in a public place...perhaps a host business?  Citizens could come in between the hours of X and Y on, say, a Saturday.  I will have a video camera set up and will record people's questions.  These could then be organized by Congressional District and edited into one large set of questions to be answered by our Congressional representatives.

These assembled videos could be posted on youtube, facebook and other web site and the respective elected officials can respond as time and their schedules allow.

And this event can be non-partisan.  For even if your Congressman is a Democrat and you are a Republican, they are still your elected official in Congress.  Same if you are a Democrat represented by a Republican.  You are still able to ask questions of your elected officials and expect a reply.  And in this, the Internet age, it would be far easier for a Congressman to reply to a large number of questions online in this manner, also making their replies more readily available to a larger number of individuals.

So what do you think?  Anyone out there willing to assist in organizing, taping, compiling, editing, posting, etc?  I'm a one-man operation here and could use some tech-geek assistance.

If you like the suggestion or have additional thoughts, please reply below.  And if you would be willing to help me organize and run this event, please reply with contact information.  I will delete your post as soon as I have your info in case the White House goes trolling through my thread looking for opposition!

Thank you for your interest, and I look forward to working with you on this little project.
