The Maryland Republican Party continues to progress steadily towards readying itself for the 2010 election. Under new leadership in Chairman Audrey Scott, the party has announced the hiring of a new Executive Director.

Kim Jorns will be starting in the position as of January 1. She is currently the Director of Finance of the Virginia Republican Party, and comes highly recommended by contacts in Virginia. “They are very sad to lose her,” said Ms. Scott, “which speaks volumes.”

Ms. Jorns is originally from Wisconsin, serving as Director of Finance for the state party, and being instrumental in helping the struggling Republican party in that state to rebuild. She repeated the performance in Virginia with its challenged state party. Ms. Scott said, “She’s got the experience we need here in Maryland, from fundraising to a reputation for hard work. Our focus now is on fundraising, so one of the first things she is planning to do is to develop a finance plan for the party.”

“She and her husband live in Maryland, she was looking for more responsibility, so the vacancy of the Executive Director slot was made to order,” said Ms. Scott.

The vacancy came in July, when past chairman Jim Pelura asked for the resignation of then Executive Director Justin Ready in a move that caused a controversy in the party. Justin since has joined the campaign of gubernatorial candidate Larry Hogan, and is still very much involved in state politics.

Cathy Watts has been acting as Interim Executive Director in the meantime. According to Chairman Scott, “She has been an absolute trooper, above and beyond the call of duty. We all owe her an enormous debt of gratitude.”

In addition to the hiring of a new Executive Director, the state party is also adding a part-time comptroller three days a week who is taking on all the responsibility of doing the state and federal filings, accounting, and putting finances in order. Fred Fleischmann, a retired CPA who is a member and treasurer of the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee, has been selected for that challenging role.

“Everyone is really pulling together and seems to be willing and eager to make this work, from the state executive board to the central committees. I don’t know what more a chairman could ask for,” said Ms. Scott.

“We are working to re-energize the party and bring the right combination of skills and talents to the leadership. The stars are aligned. It’s all happening.”

I am amazed by the so-called leadership of the Democratic Party, especially with its dealing with the "healthcare reform"! You would think that Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum were running it! Freedom loving Democrats are imposing the Individual Mandate on all Americans as they try to cram down our throats a healthcare package that Americans do not want! In stead of a spoon full of sugar, the Democrats are giving us serum of epicac!!
