San Diego ratchets up the heat on ACORN

Not waiting for President Obama’s signature on any legislation, the San Diego Board of Supervisors announced a joint investigation into Association of Community Organization of Reform Now (ACORN).

This investigation will center on voter registration fraud and why the state of California has failed to acknowledge San Diego’s Voter registrar request to look into 76 allegedly fraudulent voter cards.

Nearly a year ago, Deborah Seiler, San Diego’s Voter Registrar sent the California’s Secretary of State a request regarding possible voter fraud. That request has gone un-noticed by Secretary of State, Debra Bowen in Sacramento.

Since the release of video tapes by BigGovernment.com of ACORN employees in San Diego being complicit with illegal activity including smuggling 13-year-old girls into California to set up a brothel, County Supervisor Bill Horn demanded some answers. “We need to make sure they (ACORN) aren’t trying to skirt the law,” he said.

In a unanimous vote by the supervisors, the county has effectively set up an investigation of ACORN with the District Attorney’s and Attorney General’s offices. Horn expects full prosecution of anyone found guilty of breaking the law.

The dog-and-pony media show that ensued after the meeting was touching, as county elected officials wanted to be the first to let voters know they were looking into ACORN. What remains to be seen is if anything will be done a month from now.

California State Assemblyman, Martin Garrick-R 74th district said he intends to get to the bottom of this criminal organization. “I’m on the phone today to get a response from the Secretary of State. I want to know why it’s been about a year and nothing has been done about this fraud?”

In addition Garrick said his office would be “following the money to find out what, if any, money has been given to ACORN and how it was spent.”

However, Horn contends he “will turn up the heat on the investigation to get more done.”

Again, elected officials used this as an opportunity to underscore the need for California to have a voter identification card. “You need identification to cash a check or rent a video,” Horn said.

During the 2008 election cycle the San Diego Voter Registrars office had disposed of more than 4,000 fraudulent registration cards from ACORN leaving 76 to question.

During the weekly meeting there was some discrepancy as to whether ACORN was still operating in the county. It was stated that they have been cut from the voter registration process, but they still have an office open in National City.

Two questions: First, why didn't the local DA look into criminal charges right away? That's the proper venue in most states.

Second, is there any evidence that any of the alleged fraudulent registrations were actually used to vote? In the Florida case, for example, it was ACORN that gave the evidence to prosecutors because the organization was itself defrauded.

acorn is small potatoes. but for a gop angling against obama, it is a powerfully effective symbol in a (figurative) death by a thousand cuts to obama's standing and image.

“I've been fighting alongside of Acorn on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote in Illinois, Acorn was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.” --Obama, 2007

MR. PRESIDENT, DO YOU FEEL COMPLICIT IN THIS SCANDAL, HAVING “WORKED ALONGSIDE OF ACORN” FOR YOUR “ENTIRE CAREER”?

To those defending this organization, please. It has been caught on tape five times (with more to come!) offering advice on how to evade the authorities while enslaving Salvadoran children as prostitutes.

As the WSJ tenderly put it to other apologists, "There is no kind way to say what we think of this, but we will try to put it as gently as we can: Partisanship is well and good, but one ought to take care to observe some minimal standard of basic moral hygiene."

As a mortgage broker in the first Bush years (H.W.) we made loans that made sense. In the Clinton years THANKS to BARNEY FRANK AND the Federal guidelines I had to make loan’s that I knew that they would fail. A.C.O.R.N. HELPED With the pressure on lenders to make the loans that FULED THE SUB-PRIME MORGATGES the Bush years (W). kept the dream of home ownership alive by not correcting Fannie and Freddie mortgages, now in the Obama term it looks like Selling Out the economy is not enough they want to own it all; wall street, banking, automotive companies to take all of the profits for themselves by turning it over to labor unions as Obama said “I will own this bill” that is until something goes wrong then he will blame Bush or even Lincoln if he can make a connection. from their own sitethey have helped by Preparing, since 2004, approximately 150,000 free tax returns totaling $190 million in refunds and increased earned income tax credit participation. wonder if it is criminal as well

It's nice to know the San Diego County Board of Supervisors isn't full of ACORN apologists. Taking a stand like this makes me proud to be a San Diegan.

ACORN did not have a charter in Maryland they were illegally operating in that state. We have all got to keep heat on elected officials concerning ACORN.
I would not be surprised if they are off the hook in less than six weeks.
