In a short speech at the Esperanza National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C., the president spoke about the abundance of challenges America faces, including the hot button issue of immigration.
“We are a nation of Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus and non-believers,” President Obama opened with in his 10-minute speech to the Hispanic-American group.
The president wasted no time getting into the immigration problem this country currently faces.
“We are a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants and I’m committed to pass comprehensive immigration reform as President of the United States,” he announced. “The American people believe in immigration, but they also don’t want those who come in violation of the law.”
The audience went silent.
The president then went on to express that his administration would not tolerate employers who “exploited undocumented workers to drive down wages.”
Has the president heard of E-Verify? This program will solve the legality and exploitation problem by assuring workers are paid at least the state’s minimum wage rate. Perhaps one of Obama’s cabinet members, say Janet Napolitano the head of Department of Homeland Security, could urge the president to sign E-Verify instead of putting it off four different times since January.
At the prayer breakfast Obama went on to say, “We have to clarify the status of millions here illegally, many have put down roots. They should pay a penalty, pay taxes, learn English and go to the back of the line.”
This sounds a lot like amnesty. Amnesty is something the American people strongly oppose as evidenced in 2006 when former President Bush and John McCain tried to push it on the American people.
The president then assured the Esperanza audience that his way was the “fair, practical and promising way forward.”
The audience erupted with applause. Amnesty, what a surprise.
What Obama failed to recognize is the cost of state and federal public services as a result of an amnesty rush? Maybe if those in the shadows sign a document as they head to the back of the line stating they would not accept any public assistance while they’re in line and take the citizenship test in English, the American people would applaud.

Kimberly, great overview of this meeting. The majority of Legal American Citizens are against any type of Amnesty. We tried this under Reagan (sorry to say), and it didn't work, we have a bigger problem now because we didn't handle it according to our laws back in the 80's, enough of the blind eye. We must enforce our citizenship laws as they are!
Thank you Kimberly
Americans better wake up, because we are definitely going to get financially overwhelmed with another BLANKET AMNESTY. E-Verify a unique weapon against illegal immigration in the workplace must be implemented permanently. It should be enforced for every worker, no matter how long they have worked for any business? There are hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals, working on all rungs of the business ladder, without their immigration status being scrutinized? Don't let the special interest lobby of globalists and open border insane ideology steal American jobs. They want as much cheap labor as they can cram into our nation, to lower wages in their agenda. E-verify can and will identify foreign labor and errors can be resolved by approaching your Social Security Agency. Illegal aliens will stay well away from this government office. Read more undisguised facts at NUMBERSUSA.
E-Verify is a MUST in any attempt to stem the flow of illegal immigration. In Los Angeles the problem is overwhelming. We are a sanctuary city that taxes the citizens to the teeth in order to give a cushy ride to every illegal immigrant that can make it over the border.
They come here for the JOBS! If the jobs dry up, so will this problem.
There are too many employers that just exploit these workers and drive down all wages and benefits because they can.... they have gotten away with it for decades. They won't stop until it makes financial sense to do something else.
Over 10% of American workers in California are out of work. They need jobs that pay a living wage to keep their homes and families afloat.
The illegal workers are a big part of the problems in California. They live 7-10 in a small apartment and work for less then minimum wage. Their pay is often undeclared cash that is sent directly back to Mexico. Our American families just can't live like that.
These people are just looking for a better life. Would you, Kimberly stayed in this country if it suddenly turned much less prospreous than it is right now? Or would you rather go somewhere and live (even living there with the label "Illegal") there with your children? You know the answer. You are just fortunate enough to be born in this country and cynical enough to wish these people sorrow. Many of these people are just trying to feed their children with better food and give then a good education. Just remember: your ancesstors came to this country illegally and pushed away the native citizens (indians).
Kimberly nailed it: Obama gives lip service to immigrating legally but silently kills the E-Verify program which would guarantee it. He is killing my Hope and the Dreams of Fathers.
Everything you need to know about immigration and what to do about it humorously told.

We are a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants..."
Then ENFORCE THE LAWS, obama!
The American people DO NOT want AMNESTY for 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!
Send these 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS back to their own country where they belong and let them apply to come here LEGALLY like the millions of others who are waiting to come here LEGALLY. Then they will be welcomed with open arms.
ENFORCE THE LAW! NO AMNESTY! I repeat. ENFORCE THE LAW! NO AMNESTY! Must I say it again? OK ENFORCE THE LAW! NO AMNESTY!
Let's put hatred aside and let's the better part of us govern our mind. This problem should be dealt with accordingly and in practical manner. Don't let the pea brain and the noisy few rule. They (undocumented workers) aren't the sole problem it's our system that lure them to come and seek better life. Fix the system that works for both sides of the issue and make them a contributing part of our economy rather than demonized them. Think intelligently and not being pea brain rules us!
people talking about deporting 20 million illegals back to their home country.nuts.
Our nation is in crisis because people from all over the world dont like us no more, they raised oil prices on us,they are not investing the way they used to,they are attacking us overseas...lets send them another message that americans are racist haters, and lets just sit and watch the global supreme nation falling a part to china.
COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM MUST PASS TO SAVE OUR NATION.PERIOD
WE ARE ON THE STEPS OF THE SOVIET UNION.
MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA AND SAVE OUR NATION.
I really DO feel sorry for the plight of the people forced to come here to make a living... BUT .... the united states does far more than its share for the world. Who cares how others think of us? We do for others over and over and over, and they call us names and still think badly of us. There is such a huge number of people (too many) we let come here LEGALLY each year. The illegals need to go. I notice the president or congress never says anything to the leaders of these countrys, especiallly mexico and latin america about fixing things so their citizens can make a living. Rampant corruption is commonplace in these countrys.... why is it always up to us? Let THEM help THEIR PEOPLE !!!!
