San Diego – Even though E-Verify has been postponed until September of this year, one California company heeded the government’s warning and put all their employees through the verification process.
A Vernon, California food processing and packaging company, Overhill Farms, Inc. fired 260 workers who had given the company fraudulent Social Security numbers. The company found in a recent Internal Revenue Services audit that approximately 260 employees’ social security numbers were invalid.
Company spokesperson and board member, Alex Auerbach said, “The IRS initiated the investigation and that they (the company) had to comply with the order. We asked these employees to correct any errors within 60 days.”
According to Auerbach, the Overhill Farm management team offered to meet with any employee to provide assistance and only 17 responded. All of the 17 acknowledged that they had provided false information to the company.
Once the decision was made to let go the unverifiable employees, Local 770 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and Mexicana Latinoamericana charged the company with racism.
This prompted 75 of the Local 770 union people to protest outside the company headquarters in Vernon, saying the company “is allegedly using discrepancies in Social Security numbers as an excuse to fire higher-paid full-time workers and replace them with cheaper part-time workers, who do not enjoy benefits under the collective bargaining agreement,” union protesters said.
Auerbach finds this charge ridiculous. The company found that if they continued with the undocumented-workers employment, the company and the employees would have been subject to significant criminal and civil penalties.
On top of that Overhill Farms used the current part-time pool of employees to replace the fired workers. The company employs more than 1,000 workers and all of those workers have been put through the E-Verify screening process ensuring they are in this country legally, according to Auerbach.
The protesters also claimed that the employees terminated were Hispanic and female. However, Auerbach said they replaced the workers with “a majority of Hispanic and female workers,” essentially nullifying the argument.
“We believe the protests and false accusations are calculated solely to coerce the company to ignore the law, which of course we cannot and will not do,” he finished.

I'm glad the company stood up and refused to give in to the lame political pigs who tried to distort the truth. Three separate E-Verify amendments failed to pass through the House Appropriations Committee earlier today. Two amendments were introduced by Rep. Jack Kingston and another by Rep. Ken Calvert. E-Verify should be a permanent tool and everybody on the payroll must be identified as legal. With a dark cloud of second AMNESTY looming very soon, it can only be foiled by the American people. Only your frustrated voices erupting in Washington will freeze another Blanket Amnesty.
A relative of mine in a Los Angeles neighborhood, told me that the large franchise "El Pollo Loco" was displaying a sign that they had adopted E-verify to identify who they were hiring? However there are hundreds of thousands of predatory businesses and contractors out there employing illegal foreign nationals instead of US workers, to satisfy the profit margins of free traders.
Worried about their bountiful profits from cheap labor the business community, have used any means possible to demonize this tool. They have afforded many errors to its use, complaining that thousands of people have been ejected from jobs. Yet they have never informed the avid population, that errors can be resolved by stopping off at the local Social Security office. Only the illegal workers are not going to trespass in this government agency. You would think with the massive public outcry about using E-Verify, politicians would be weary of voters in the next re-election. But--NO--35 members voted not to identify all employees and new hires through the E-Verify.
Obama Committee Votes to Give Stimulus Jobs to Illegal immigrants.
The American people are wondering if the Obama administration is holding back E-Verify, as a pawn in an immigration game of chess. Is this one of their political ploys to force through another Amnesty like in 1986, then I guess--THE PEOPLE--will have no say in their future? If the company actually used E-Verify to check the status of existing employees, then it violated the law and shuld be investigated by the Dept of Justice.

a guest worker program, if needed should not supply cheap labor but temporary or seasonal labor. Guest returns at least every 90 days and family does not come here. Pay US wages and provide for housing. Withhold taxes for Mexico as they require. Fresh food prices may go up but will more than offset taxes paid for illegals services. Use e-verify and remove incentives for illegals.
As localities deal with illegals and encorage them to move to santuary states and cities. Santuary taxpayers will be overrun and wakeup. California get ready for a big increase of illegals from other states. A doubling of illegals will double the benefit they bring to California and reduce the burden on other states. The contribution of additional illegals in California will snap the state out of recession and eliminate the budget problem.
Every illegal alien working in construction, manufacturing, service industries, etc. is using a fraudulent SSN and filed a fraudulent I-9, W-4, etc. In other words 7-8 million illegal aliens are committing ID fraud, according to the SSA.
They may be using your SSN or your child's SSN. So what harm does that do??? The IRS will come looking for you asking why you are filing two tax returns or they will want to know why you didn't report all the income you made. Don't forget that your income will now include the illegal aliens earnings, so you will be responsible for paying any taxes he owes. Many illegals file tax returns for the sole purpose of claiming Earned Income Credit (EIC), so you can expect the IRS to question that as well. And don't forget to check your credit report to see how much other damage they've done to you there.

Finally! A company with the common sense and courage to do the right thing! The company may hurt a little bit finacially for this decision in the short run, but in the long run it will benefit this company greatly in terms of PR and morale and (contrary to popular propoganda) EVEN IN PRODUCTION, mark my words. they are going to find that there truly are alot more grateful and good AMERICAN employees that will now bless their company in these tough economic times.
