California targets ammunition sales

Another attack on the Second Amendment in California could result is less ammunition for gun owners and more paperwork for gun retailers. California’s AB 962 legislation has been introduced by Democrat Assembly member Kevin de Leon of Los Angeles.

Gun owners find California’s AB 962 a serious threat to the right’s of law-abiding gun owners in the state. Assemblyman de Leon couldn’t disagree more. “These simple rules governing handgun ammunition will protect police officers, families and children from deadly gun violence,” he said.

Since March the bill has undergone some changes. One such provision within the bill that has been removed would have forced retailers to be licensed in order to sell ammunition. Although this provision was stripped, many gun owners in the state feel they must always remain alert or their guns will be taken away altogether.

California has quickly become known as a state that runs business, well, out of business. Regulations, taxes and unfriendly legislators in Sacramento have run the once Golden State into the Pacific Ocean.

That being said, AB 962 still contains rules that gun owners don’t appreciate. First, retail store owners will have to make the ammunition inaccessible from purchasers. The legislation requires individuals buying ammunition to be fingerprinted at the time of the sale.

AB 962 would also mandate that ammunition dealers keep these records and have them available for inspection by the Department of Justice. Gun owners believe this may cause some dealers to stop selling ammunition altogether.

Finally, mail order ammunition sales will be banned in California under AB 962.

Gun-rights activists encourage all responsible gun owners to contact their state representatives to voice their concern regarding this new anti-gun bill.

I'm in law enforcement. I have to pay for my own ammo during my shooting practice since my department is only required to provide ammo twice a year for qualification. In order to reduce the price of each shot, I purchase in bulk by mail order. The price for reloading has already doubled, now, if this law passes I'm rquired to purchase reloading material from retailers which would double, triple the price of each bullet shot.

Knowledge about reloading and casting lead bullets with anything containing lead leaves me to conclude the intent of this law in reducing criminal access to ammo will not have its intended effect. It's also common knowledge that criminals will use family members and associates to circumvent the fingerprint requirement; creating another illegall market. All it will do, with our limited budget, is reduce my fellow officers and me the amount of time we can train by increasing the price for each bullet shot.

If we were lucky, California and New York would break off the U.S. coastlines during an earthquake. How great that would be! California you still have a chance, and that is to vote that Polosi and the other Democrats out of office. New York it is to late for you!! Sorry

It would seem that those in California have not learned their lesson yet. This is the type of "government" that you get from letting actors think they are also politicains. It is past the time for things to get back on the right track. It sickens me that this type of political hooha has been going on for 100 years or more and it is just starting to sink in that this is all part of the bigger picture. The longer we all wait to put a stop to this, the longer and harder it is going to be to end it. California, GET YOUR EGOTISTIC, MONEY GRUBBING WHORE POLITICIANS OUT OF OFFICE. The political descisions made in California relfect on the rest of the U.S. Because for some reason everyone seems to think that, if they can get away with it there, why can't we do it here? I agree that it is TOO late for New York. Just go ahead and give it to the Italians.

The Kevin de Leon politicians of this world have but one purpose. To eliminate our right to defend ourselves. I don't have a policeman in my pocket, he's to heavy to carry and at least 15 mins away once they get the call. A lot can happen in 15 mins.

3rd time for this pos bill, doubtful it will succeed this time, but........I am not holding my breath, however due to California's fiscal funk, AB962 is estimated to cost the State around 500K the first year of implementation and near or over 1 million the second, hopefully this bill will die a quick death

    I AGREE WITH common defense 1000 %
I am a Fed licensed C&R collector and I have to purchase ammo on line, simply DUE TO THE FACT that the kind and type of ammo is hard to find and getting harder all the time.
This is just another OPPRESSIVE law written by political fools.

If this bill does pass I for one will be moving out of this nanny state run by NAZI Pelosi, Feinstein and Bab's Boxer, not to mention ALL the other minions. Then there will be less tax payer money to pay for all the Illegals over running this state.

Sad state of affairs in which our own law enforcement agents get screwed in this deal (read common defense's reply). Guns don't kill people, people kill people. What's next, taxing or banning body armor because it saves lives? I hope Mr. de Leon has a vest at home because he'll probably need it if this bill passes along with the rest of the CA legislature. I for sure, feel safer walking with one on, then counting on the 15 minutes it takes for the cops to arrive (no offense, common defense). I surprised that there is no shortage of vests yet, there should be given this alarming bill. Everyone knows that the criminal will always have access and more bullets than the common citizen. And if there weren't bullets in existence, they'd have knives or bows and arrows. A weapon is a weapon, laws are not, they are just paper that mandates for law enforcement to do more with less. Smart governments issue weapons to their populace and train them to defend themselves. Google Switzerland & Israel.

I think it would be fair if people who had to complete programs could buy bulk ammo. Maybe they will take that into consideration.
