California State Senator Gilbert Cedillo-D put forth a resolution that passed in the California Senate condemning specified policies and practices of federal agencies regarding the enforcement of immigration laws. Furthermore Cedillo’s resolution urges Congress and President Obama to declare an immediate moratorium on immigration policies and practices until a comprehensive reform of immigration is enacted.
Although a Joint Senate Resolution does not have the force of law, it is voted on in both California Houses. This resolution has passed in a partisan Democrat vote. The resolution is not typically sent to the Governors desk. Most would consider the document more of a hopeful resolution.
The first paragraph of the resolution reads, “The State of California values all of its residents, whether they be citizens, legal residents, or undocumented immigrants, and strives to enable all residents to work and live free from discrimination, exploitation, and repressive federal immigration enforcement.”
However Congressman Brian Bilbray-R Calif. reminds Sen. Cedillo that this resolution breaks the laws of the Constitution. “He should look up the separation of powers section and this resolution is nothing more than political posturing.”
According to Sen. Cedillo’s Press Secretary Xochitl Arellano, Senator Cedillo who campaigned with President Obama has now officially put the President on notice. “The electronic raids have to stop.”
There are hundreds of undocumented workers losing their jobs on a moments notice, Arellano points out. “The Obama Administration must stop E-Verify, period.”
When asked about the California’s double-digit unemployment rate and the difficulty U.S. citizens’ face Arellano says, “We are not responding to that and it doesn’t matter.”
This resolution will surely create a firestorm of backlash from those who demand enforcement of state and federal immigration laws.
One such opponent is State Assemblyman Martin Garrick-R Carlsbad.
“ It’s ridiculous and Assemblyman Garrick has tried numerous times to strengthen immigration laws and how to better identify the ones who reside in the jail system,” says Mike Zimmerman, press secretary for Garrick. “However, the make up of the state legislation makes it difficult to get any meaningful reform through.”
Zimmerman continues to say a moratorium on immigration enforcement would be a public safety threat and should be very concerning for all citizens in the country.
Tactics like these doesn’t come as a surprise from anti-amnesty and secure border groups like the Minutemen.
"Gil Cedillo has long been a strong advocate for Mexican illegal aliens, but this crosses the line and is a direct attack on American citizens and taxpayers. Cedillo does not speak for most Californians with his seditious words and radical propaganda," says Jeff Schwilk, Founder of the San Diego Minutemen.
On a national level, immigration organizations that study the issues and their affect on the U.S. population like Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) view Cedillo’s action as unacceptable.
“In the wake of busts across the country of 'separate, unrelated' terrorism busts of individuals who are mostly foreign born, California wants to replace some semblance of order provided by solid programs like E-Verify and 287(g) that better help us find out who is authorized to be here and who has and has not broken the law, with blinders. What are California lawmakers thinking? Would it matter if the Dallas bomber was the LA bomber instead?” Janice Kephart, Director of National Security Policy for CIS said.

By the way, the Europeans who came here starting in the 16th century weren't illegal aliens. There were no immigration laws in place in North America at that time. You can't violate a law that doesn't exist. These Europeans, beginning with the Spaniards, might have been unwelcome visitors, but they weren't illegal aliens.
Maria, Stacie1whitie, is one of the those hopeless cases, who knows nothing about American history or most likely even her own history. Rootless herself, feeling no authentic connection to the U.S.,(you can tell from her attitude) she can't understand why others care about the U.S. She talks about Rednecks, Hillbillies, teabaggers, yet she would never talk about the fact that these people and their descendants are who built the United States. I have the feeling she doesn't really want to know the truth, and that's fine. Some people love living in darkness. All she can apparently see in the "teabaggers" is her own warped views. You'll never change these folks, they are too far gone.

When she refers to the illegals in the Columbus era she may be referring to the "new land migrants". Spaniards are not really us we are the Columbus era migrants and we fought our wars with Britain for freedom.
About there being no immigration laws is not entirely correct. I am certain the Indian chiefs had laws just not in the form we know them today. There was no USCIS but tribal laws still existed as word of mouth and story as it does with many tribes in the world today.
England was an advanced nation with written laws. Americas was not when it was invaded by the British from which we spawned.

Bobby, The America you know was built on the backs of the underclass, the African slaves that we brought "illegally" to work the great farms that sustained the country, the Irish (aka Mexicans of the mid-1800s), the Chinese that built our commerce backbone the transcontinental railroad, the current Mexicans who keep your lettuce from costing $15 per head, and so on and so forth.
These waves if immigrants legal and illegal have always existed and has made our country better. The ones who are hopeless are not the likes of Stacy but the teabaggers like you.
TomW - Stacy and her friends make the arguement about the Native Americans because they like to try to portray Illegal Immigrants from Mexico as Native Americans and the people of the USA as invaders who have no right to keep Illegal Immigrants out. But the joke is on her as a mere 12% of Mexicans are "Native American". The rest are descended in part or in whole from non-Native Americans just like those of us born in the USA.

Immigrants who come to the US LEGALLY still do not have the same rights as citizens. Though they pay the same taxes as citizens, they are not eligible to enjoy all the rights and benefits that our country has to offer.
And as far as undocumented immigrants paying taxes...where does that money go? That's right, to the US government. And yes, that contributes to the American economy and to things like social services that both undocumented and documented immigrants are ineligible for.
And as far as I know, we are country of immigrants, legal and not.
Christine - you are the one who does not know history. Even at the peak of the greatest wave of immigration in 1910 a mere 15% of our population was foreign born. And it was substantially less than that for most of our history, even after the Revolution. Slavery was not built on food; it was built on King Cotton grown for foreign export. Exploitation for fun and profit that really was not needed. And by 1859 it had become uneconomical. Thus the problems the South had economically trying to survive the Civil War. And if immigrants were only for exploitation how do you explain such families as the Kennedy’s? Many Robber Barons were immigrants themselves, exploiting other immigrants and citizens alike. You must be the product of our modern "Americans are exploiters" re-write of history education system. You might try reading more about real history before quoting such erroneous "facts".
