Say it ain’t so Joe; the Obama Administration is planning to strip America’s Sheriff of the ability to deal with the staggering illegal immigration problems Arizona continues to fight.
Not only is Arizona home to the second highest kidnappings in the world, the deluge of crime spills over into local communities. In an effort to protect Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has used Federal Law 287g to alleviate the ever-growing problems and protect its residents.
In a joint statement, Rep. Trent Franks-AZ and Lamar Smith-TX urged the Obama Administration and Department of Homeland Security to rethink their position on 287g regarding Maricopa County.
“The key to combating illegal immigration is federal, state and local cooperation,” Smith and Franks said. “This is why we believe it is crucial for the federal government to continue to support individuals like Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the implementation of agreements under section 287g, which provides for the Department of Homeland Security to delegate authority to enforce federal immigration laws to state and local officials.”
According to Arizona state data, more than 33 percent of inmates in Maricopa County Sheriff facilities are legal residents, while more than 53 percent of violent crimes committed in the county are perpetrated by illegal aliens.
“The fact is, 287g program works. Thousands of illegal immigrants apprehended for other crimes are being identified and deported,” Smith says.
Franks believes local law enforcement should be getting a thank you, not punishment for assisting the federal government in addressing the problem of rampant illegal immigration. “Maricopa County has seen an increase in crime, drug trafficking and other issues because of the immigration problem,” Franks explains.
“It is reprehensible for DHS to bully law enforcement officials who have honorably served this nation and the state of Arizona by enforcing federal and state laws and who are continuing to work to protect the American people,” Franks finished.

What a crack-up. Obama (One Big Arse Mistake America) and HLS need to do their job. Not the job where they talk about the problem for 3 years and draft legislation for another 3 years. They need to stop the bleeding at the border. How about drafting legislation where citizens can arrest trespassers from foriegn countries? Can we consider this a hostile invasion and put them in POW Camps?
Don't get me wrong. I believe in allowing civilized migration through the proper chanels. The majority of hispanics are a hard working and wholesome people. Most of these people stay in Mexico. What we are getting are the criminals and flakes. Yes there are a few exceptions. But 80 - 90 percent are chronic criminals.

Obama administration trying to strip him. You talk about change
and the only change that we are getting is an adminstration that
is talking about amnesty. Sheriff Joe is one of the only sheriffs
in the entire country that is trying to do the right thing and
get the people out of this country that do not belong here. Yet
Obama is so bent on giving amnesty that he cannot let a person
do his job. Did you here Obama say anything about the idiot
in California who says let stop enforcing our immigration laws
because the illegal people's families are being broken up. Yet
the rep or senator is not concern about the unemployed American
citizens. Let Joe do his job, Obama and leave him alone.
Unbelievable. It's Orwellian. The one guy who is actually trying hard to make a difference and enforce our immigration laws is being stripped of his ability to do so by the Federal Government. It is beyond absurd.
This is unacceptable. Sheriff Joe should be supported and praised for his efforts in upholding the law to protect the citizens. Drain the Swamp in 2010.
The guy takes it too far. One thing is punishing real criminals. In fact, people who simply want better lives for them and their kids suffer. Stop being so angry about so called "illegal immigrants". Anyone of us would have done the same thing (crossed to a different country illegally) for the sake of better life. Me, you, anyone. Most of them are paying taxes (even though in many instances they don't have to) and don't commit any crimes. There is also an issue of people who got visas and overstayed here. These are decent people. America gave them visa proving that they are not of any danger to us. They just accepted this land as their homeland.

Euge, a great many of us have crossed borders to better lives for our families...legally. This is not a racial issue, it is a legal issue and an economic one. One reason we have always had borders and controlled immigration was to ascertain we could afford the environmental and economical impact on this country. As an analogy, picture a struggling family of ten, adopting ten more children out of the goodness of their hearts...all that is accomplished, is the hunger of 20 children...their own 10 plus the children they tried to save. Legally immigrating often breaks up families. I know of many who have worked 10 or more years to get wives, children and parents here to join them legally; and without the entitlement programs the illegals seem to receive as a reward for breaking the law. I support Sheriff Joe.

This site by Roy Beck (I believe there is no relationship to Glenn Beck) is very informative, calm and absolutely does not allow the bashing of any people. You will be amazed at what you can learn there.

Do a Google search on "maricopa county inmate killed" and then check out all the people who have *died* in Arpaio's illegal, unconstitutional and *unaccredited* jails. The illegal immigrants here in Brooklyn take thousands of jobs from citizens that have paid taxes for years. Ills. work w/out paying taxes, enroll their children in schools paid by citizens-about $11,000 per year per student. They get healthcare - there are clinics and hospitals and emergency workers that care for them like my husband. Citizens pay for that too-millions! Our jails are full of them as the NYPD knows-and the citizens pay for that too-more millions! Legal immigration is the LAW and it should be enforced as that is what keeps order. If it was actually enforced here in NYC unemployment would severely decrease as businesses would not be allowed to hire illegals. Working conds. would improve too as legal citizens do not tolerate the unhealthy conds. many illegals are exposed to. Any who thinks that all people who want legal immigration are racist are ignorant. Instead of taking our $ thru taxes to distribute to illegals-let us use our hard-earned $ how we choose!

Sheriff Joe is a true American hero. He is one of the few in authority defending our nation against millions of foreign nationals invading our country. Thank you Joe. I wish we had someone like you in California.
This makes me sick. Punished for enforcing the law. If we don't do something, we are finished. No amnesty, ever.
