What did you expect when you asked for change?

… Parents do not trust the Educator-in-Chief and his "comrades." You can take Obama from the radicals in Chicago. But you can't take the Chicago radicalism out of Obama. – Michelle Malkin

On Tuesday the President of the United States will speak to school children across the nation in a television address. A large number of parents will keep their children home in the belief that this is an inappropriate use of the bully pulpit. But what did they expect from a community organizer whose playbook is Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky? (To understand Rules for Radicals, see my previous op-ed.)

Barack Obama is a relentless self-promoter who requires hours of face time to feed his narcissism. He has had more prime-time news conferences aired in his first seven months in office and more images on front pages of magazines than most modern presidents have had in four years.

In trying to ram his agenda down American’s throats, he plays the front man. Never mind that the expensive, overreaching bills recently enacted by Congress are not his own, they fit nicely into his vision for a changed America. Channeling Billy Mays, Obama merely pitches the product.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Obama views us as rubes willing to pay a dime to see the freak show providing the pitch is properly delivered. It’s no surprise that grown ups across the nations are becoming leery. So let’s get the kids on board.

The other day my nephew announced that the polar bears are an endangered species.
I did some research about polar bears when I was teaching. Polar bears are at the pinnacle of the North American food chain. They are smart, adaptable, omnivores (able to eat almost anything) and have no natural predators. A polar bear can swim 25 miles without breaking a sweat. There are about 20 distinct polar bear populations representing about 22,000 individuals worldwide. Ten regional populations, approximately 45% of the total number are stable. Another two populations, about 14% of the population, are increasing. The status of the remaining six populations is unknown. Therefore it is difficult to argue that polar bears are in any way endangered.

Where did my nephew learn about the polar bear’s eventual demise? He saw the slide of the frightened bear sitting on the melting ice flow far from shore, surrounded by nothing but open water in grade school. (He wasn’t told that the photo was taken in summer time when ice tends to melt.) It’s easy to manipulate children into believing just about anything.

Before his election, Obama launched a plan to build a citizen service corps that is as well funded and as powerful as the military. He has more corps organizations than people to fill them. Some of his corps include: Classroom Corps; Health Corps; Clean Energy Corps; Veterans Corps; Homeland Security Corps; Peace Corps; Global Energy Corps; AmeriCorps VISTA; Experience Corps; Senior Corps and Green Job Corps.

Under Obama’s vision, these corps would be manned primarily by Kool-Aid drinking adults. But Americans are finally beginning to see the big picture and it scares the bejeezus out of them. So Obama has to rely on students to drive his agenda: Kids; children with heads full of mush. It will take a little longer, but an army of well indoctrinated children can eventually accomplish anything their handlers ask of them.

Obama’s school address to America’s students on September 8 will be innocuous enough, with only a few nuances that will seem innocent on the surface to disarm concerned parents. See, there wasn’t much to it. Nothing to worry about.

Not yet.

Schools have been using students as lobbyists for just about everything of interest to the left including illegal immigration, gay marriage, anti-war activism, environmentalism and global warming. The lesson plans submitted to principals and teachers regarding Obama’s address this week tell the whole story.

Teachers are being instructed to ask questions like, “What is the President asking us to do?” and “How can we, as students, accomplish what the President asks us?” Students are also being encouraged to write to the Whitehouse describing how they would support the President. Not a single school board or parent was consulted about the lessons.

The radical agenda is sure to come later, after Obama has the hearts and minds of the kids under his control and a virtual army of enabling liberal teachers to promote his master plan.

    Put the crack pipe down.

There's a lot false facts and distortions in this writing, spiced up with some good old fear mongering. Give me some real facts to chew on. Remember, we just came off No Child Left Behind (NCLS), the worse education initiative. Did I hear the stink about that?

Hey Dale -- What is this, Rules for Radicals #5? Just saying that there are distortions doesn't make it so. How about some examples?

I would agree this article is a little short on facts and long on opinion, beliveve me as a conservative I find plenty in this new administration to disagree with. My point is liberals seem to attack personally instead of talking about issues. Are you arguments that weak that you can't have an intelligent discussion with a conservative?

Thanks for your comment, Chris. You are correct in that this is an opinion editorial. Opinions are like belly buttons ... everyone has one. I just happened to post mine.

I am "overjoyed" that parents who hate President Obama with every fiber of their being are keeping their kids from hearing his speech. After all, these children could like the speech and the President, and be naive enough to tell their parents so. Saying they like the president could put them at substantial risk of bodily harm.

The only problem with this is that the hate comedians will then ratchet up their demands on their followers, and not be satisfied until their followers riot and somebody gets killed. From the look on the hate comedians faces as they speak, they see all of this as fun and games; and why not? This particular game of theirs about the dastardly implications of the president talking to school children has been getting enough media coverage to bring each of them several thousand more listeners, and a big bonus from their boss Mitt Romney. Fun, games, publicity, bonuses.

This piece is short on facts, and even those are wrong. At the most recent meeting of the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group, scientists reported that 8 of the 19 polar bear populations are declining, compared with 5 four years ago. Of the remaining populations, 3 are stable, 1 is increasing, and 7 have insufficient data on which to base a decision.

Hi Frank, The link you have on polar bear numbers is badly outdated--it's from 2002. Here is a link to the current information, from the July 2009 meeting of the IUCN/Polar Bear Specialist Group: www.polarbearsinternational.org/polar-bear-status-report/

Mark Twain said, "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics." I noticed that the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group referred to the reports of "scientists" but they didn't say who those "scientists" were or where the "scientists" received their data. Did they actually do a head count? Hey, I'm just sayin ...

Read the transcript or watch the speech. Obama wasn't talking policy, he was simply taking the time to inspire students. Every kid deserves to have a few minutes from our President dedicated to their well-being. Fear and narrow-mindedness obviously cloud your reasoning. No wonder we can't get anything done in this country with naysayers like you. Oh, and most of those Corps you listed aren't Obama's Corps, as you state. Most have been around for several administrations. Enjoy your little tea party!

Those of us opposed to Mr. Obama speaking to our children in the school are viewed as irrational, fearmongers, ridiculous, etc. The media will point out that President Bush spoke to our children, and that was fine, so what's the big fuss?
What was only half revealed was that President Bush did indeed speak to school children on October1,1991. However, the democrats did not applaud this act and support it, nor did the media. The Washington Post's (on Oct 2, 1991)front page read "The White House turned a Northwest Washington Jr High classroom into a television studio and it's students the props". Democrats called for a full investigation how the speech was funded, hearings were held on the matter and Education Secretary Lamar Alexander forced to testify before a congressional committee.

Those whose conduct gives room for talk are always the first to attack their neighbors-
