Americans behaving like lemmings

Promising “change”, promising a government free of “lobbyists”, promising “transparency”, and generally promising a new dawn of enlightened government, Barack Obama and his majority in Congress arrived on January 20, 2009 and promptly began to bankrupt the nation, deny Americans access to their vast energy resources, and seek to impose an insane law predicated on the “global warming” hoax; the belief that carbon dioxide, vital to all life on Earth, was a “pollutant” that had to be reduced and that its emission had to be heavily taxed  … and it has taken barely four months to get to this point.   -- Alan Caruba

There has to be something that causes lemmings to rush into the sea. Perhaps it is a genetic glitch somewhere in their DNA that causes them to destroy themselves. Maybe a virus invades their thought processing centers. It could be that an evil Jim Jones lemming leader co-opts the lemming government and through charismatic speeches causes the lemmings to follow him to their destruction. Or, it could be that the lemming universities began long ago to brainwash the lemming offspring and encourage them to do what their parents wouldn’t until the child lemmings are old enough and strong enough to take over the lemming government and carry it to its demise.Regardless of the reasons, the suicidal lemming rush to the sea results in the death of the lemmings and their culture.

People are a little like lemmings. We tend to run in groups. We have families, clubs and associations, and communities. We want to hang with people of like interests and goals. We enjoy working together to achieve some outcome or another. And every now and then people form a mob. A mob can be defined as: Group insanity manifesting itself in the destruction of something or someone with no consideration of the consequences.

In November, 2008, the United States went insane. The majority of Americans formed a mob and angrily threw the grownups out of Washington. With that single act, America began to commit suicide as surely as lemmings running headlong into the deep. We began drowning America in unbelievable debt.

During the first 100 days of his presidency, Barak Obama signed a $787 billion stimulus bill into law, proposed a $3.6 trillion budget for the next fiscal year, took over a massive $700 billion Wall Street bailout program, and created numerous other billion-dollar programs.

But he wasn’t finished. Obama has pushed Congress to pass cap and trade legislation which has already cleared the House of Representatives. Cap and trade was written to address a fictitious global warming problem. Nevertheless, the bill dramatically increases the cost of energy which some experts believe will create a significantly slower economy and reduce America’s growth. Heritage analysis finds that by 2035, a projected 2.5 million jobs will lost due to the cap and trade bill. The average annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) lost will be $393 billion, hitting a high of $662 billion in 2035

The lemmings are on the move now, and the cliffs overlooking the ocean are coming into view.
Now here comes Barak Obama’s health care plan for America. By subsidizing the healthcare for those Americans who, for various reasons, choose not to purchase health insurance, Obama will increase the cost to the American taxpayer by well over a trillion dollars.

Obama’s spending spree is projected to cost the American taxpayer over 13 trillion dollars over then next ten years. Let’s put that number into perspective. One trillion miles is roughly the distance of a round trip from Earth to Pluto three hundred fifty times. One trillion dollars is roughly the cost of paving the entire US Interstate Highway System with 23 karat gold leaf. One trillion dollars can fund the military of every NATO country combined. One trillion dollars will pay for less than one tenth of Obama’s spending spree.

That much money can never be repaid. Spending that much money is crazy. Spending that much money, and expecting only the wealthiest Americans to pay it back, is insane. Spending that much money, and at the same time destroying American’s ability to prosper through punitive regulation and confiscatory taxes, is suicidal.

Move over lemmings, we’re coming along for the very short ride to our demise.

The amazement at misinformation in these types of repetitive articles are astounding.

How did we get into this mess? Oh yes it was that guy during last term. How do we get out? Do you have a suggestion or are you just pointing out how much we are spending. I don't think anyone disagrees how much it will hurt us.

Do you have any understanding of the science behind climate studies or is this just something which was spouted from fox news.

If we don't fix health-care then the country is going to go bust. So what is your suggestion? Believe me other "socialist" countries seem to get a handle on costs compared to the states.

I think lemmings are the people who claim that they know best but speak from ideology with no knowledge of science or economics.
