Aldean's rolling Wide Open in support of his new CD.
Country artist Jason Aldean has upped his already-driving pace to full throttle this week following the release of his third CD, Wide Open, which hit traditional and digital retailers April 7.
The much-anticipated CD contains the Georgia artist's latest hit song, the former No. 6-ranked "She's Country."And at this writing, "She's Country" is the No. 1 ringtone in all genres on iTunes.
According to an April 8 report from Aldean's PR rep, the electric reaction to the track has also driven sales of more than 400,000 digital downloads since the hit song's initial introduction at the CMA Awards in November.
Meanwhile, in honor of the new record's unveiling, Aldean's embarked on a promo tour in its honor. Fresh from his presenting duties at this year's 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, Aldean took to the road to share news of Wide Open with country fans in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, New York City, Atlanta and Charlotte for a series of fan events and media appearances.
During the eight-city trek, Aldean--a former ACM Top New Male Vocalist--will put in an April 10 appearance on NBC's TODAY, followed by evening appearances at the opening game of the Atlanta Braves home season, where the self-dubbed baseball fanatic will throw out the first pitch and sing the National Anthem.
Now based in Nashville with his wife and two daughters, Aldean also will be featured on a one-hour GAC special titled Jason Aldean: Wide Open. The special was shot at a sold-out arena show in Knoxville last month and in his hometown of Macon, Ga., where the proud country boy invited the cameras to meet his family and friends for the first time ever.
When it came time to cut Wide Open, the headlining country performer recorded his third-times-the-charm disc with his touring band and the aid of producer Michael Knox. Per the singer-songwriter, the new album offers fans more of his unapologetic southern rock style with barn-burners such as "She's Country" and "Crazy Town." But Aldean also successfully wove more reflective songs into the CD, including "On My Highway" and "Fast" on his latest Broken Bow effort.
I feel like with my first two albums, I was trying to dial in who I was as an artist and what my fans liked and expected to hear from me," Aldean says. "Four years into it, I think understand that now, and I'm really just starting to hit my stride. I'm excited to see what happens the next few weeks and months, because I'm really proud of the new album."
As for fans members of the Aldean Army, Jason's fan club, and others who've anxiously awaiting the arrival of the April 7 purchase date, you may be interested to learn that whose who buy Wide Open at Wal-Mart will also be treated to a special bonus track, collaboration with one of Aldean's musical heroes, Randy Owen, who joins Aldean on one of Alabama's hits, "My Home's In Alabama." Those digital shoppers who prefer to buy ‘n’ download music online can score a bonus track titled "The Best of Me" by purchasing from iTunes.
