Bonafide bluegrass stars: Dailey & Vincent unleash 'Brothers from Different Mothers'

Jamie Dailey, left, and Darrin Vincent just released a new CD.

Rounder Records duo Dailey & Vincent recently celebrated the release of their new album, Brothers From Different Mothers, at  an invite-only shindig at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum in Nashville.

A who's who of country music in Music City turned out for the event, including RFD-TV show hosts Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase, who introduced the humble duo just prior to their performance in the hall of fame's Ford Theater, as well as one of this writer's favorites, Charlie Louvin, who made his mark on country as one-half of The Louvin Brothers but continues to record Grammy-nominated solo albums.

On the brand-new CD, which was officially released March 31, 2009, seasoned bluegrass/country performers Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent pay homage to 2008 Country Music Hall of Famers The Statler Brothers. As lifelong fans of the group quartet, the pair opted to record two of  the quartet's tunes, "Years Ago" and "There is You." Moreover,  Statlers' bass vocalist Harold Reid also has a cameo on the record's "Head Hung Down" track--an event that caused  him to temporarily unretire his Lester "Roadhog" Moran character.

To help Dailey & Vincent celebrate the unveiling of their sophomore CD, Nashville resident Jimmy Fortune, who happens to be tenor for the Statlers, was on hand to show his support, as were Langdon Reid of Grandstaff (son of the Statlers' Don  Reid) and Wil Reid of Grandstaff (son of the Statlers' Harold Reid), among other musicmakers.

The recent CD party came just a month after Dailey and Vincent swept the 35th Annual SPBGMA Bluegrass Music Awards, which were held at the Sheraton Music City, Scoring six awards, the duo was honored as Bluegrass Band of the Year (Overall), Vocal Group of the Year, Gospel Group of the Year (Contemporary) and won Song of the Year  for the stirring "By the Mark" track. Additionally, Dailey was named Male Vocalist of the Year (Contemporary) and Vincent was named Bass Fiddle Performer of the Year.

Although Dailey & Vincent--who made their Grand Ole Opry debut just last year, were unable to attend the awards because of a prior commitment to perform at the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival in Framingham, Mass., on the same day, they were  honored by the prizes and recognition their talents have garnered.

"We continue to be overwhelmed and humbled by how much we've been blessed," Vincent said. "Thank you to everyone who voted. This means the world to us!"

As for the dozen-song Brothers from Different Mothers, don't let your country collection go without it. This writer never tires of the nectar-sweet, pure harmonies these two produce. Give them a listen, and I dare you not to get chills!
