Traditional-country duo Joey + Rory have come a long, long way since their fan-favorite performances as contestants on CMT's Can You Duet in 2008.

In under two years, the husband 'n' wife act, hit-songwriter Rory Lee Fink and Joey Martin, have released their debut CD, Life of A Song, and scored country-chart action and video airplay with their singles "Play the Song" and the top-30 "Cheater, Cheater," respectively.

Now, with a rabidly devoted fan base and a 2009 CMA nod in the Duo of the Year contest to their credit, the Tennessee-based musicians have released their third and most "straight-from-the-heart" single, "To Say Goodbye."

The song, which has also inspired a Web site for related story-sharing, is an emotional ballad that's based on real life; specifically,  the importance of being able to impart that one final goodbye to a loved one.

Vocalist Joey shared the below story behind the poignant song's origins.

Anytime we lose a loved one, our lives are changed forever ... mine's no exception. In July of '94, my only brother Justin was in a car accident about a mile from our farmhouse in Indiana. He was 17 and on his way to the county fair. We were only a year apart in age and the best of friends.

A nearby neighbor ran from the scene to our house to get my mom and me. On the side of the road that night ... we held Justin's hand. We cried and we prayed with him, and ultimately a few days later, we watched him pass away.

He never regained consciousness, so we never got the chance to talk to him or look into his eyes and tell him we loved him or how much he meant to us. Like the rest of my family, I've cried a million tears over losing him that summer. He had his whole life ahead of him, and just like that ... he was gone. This one's for you, Justin.
