Family Circle Cup Stadium is set to come alive once again on August 13. Perennial hometown favorite Darius Rucker returns during a short break from his summer tour with Rascal Flatts. This will mark the eighth year for the “Homegrown Concert Series”.
The series started in 2003 when Rucker and his Hootie and The Blowfish band mates saw a need that wasn’t being addressed…underfunded school systems. The band put together The Homegrown Tour and asked fans to bring school supplies to be donated to local school systems. The idea took off and the band has toured each year to benefit the education of young children. To date the tour has raised over $150,000; the equivalent of 30 busloads of supplies.
While Darius has taken the country music scene by storm in the last six months, Hootie and The Blowfish are on hiatus, but the show had to go on. With the blessings of his Hootie band mates Mark Bryan, Dean Felber and Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, Rucker will continue the tradition country style. Dierks Bentley, one of the hardest touring men in music will be joining Darius for the one night show that will benefit the Charleston County School District. Dierks Bentley’s latest album “Feel That Fire” has been on Billboard’s Country Album Chart for twenty six weeks and peaked in the top position.
Along with Bentley, breakthrough artist Jamey Johnson, will make the show and is sure to light up the night “In Color”. Johnson’s rich voice and songwriting skill propelled him to the top of the country charts and earned him the Music Row Award for Breakthrough artist this past July. He also won the song of the year honor for co-writing “In Color” with the MuzikMafia’s James Otto and Lee Thomas Miller. "In Color" also received a Grammy nomination. With talent and personalities of such a high caliber, Darius Rucker’s first solo Homegrown Concert is sure to be a big hit especially with the children of the Charleston County School District.
