She's a whole lot of country, but last Thursday at the kickoff night of the 2010 CMA Music Festival, Carrie Underwood showed the world that she's also a whole lot of rock and roll. Carrie Underwood closed out the show on the opening night with some of the songs that made her a star, including her first single "Jesus Take the Wheel" which she mashed up with the gospel classic "How Great Thou Art."
Before the end of her set, Carrie Underwood was joined on stage by one of country's favorites, Jason Aldean, for a duet of the Guns 'N Roses classic "Paradise City." Carrie threw her hair around, danced around the stage and belted out notes that most country stars wouldn't know what to do with.
Carrie has always made a point to stick to her country roots, never changing her songs to make them "pop-friendly" and has still managed to become a crossover success. But on Thursday night, Carrie showed fans that she's so much more than just a country artist. Carrie Underwood showed that she has such vocal power, energy and range to sing almost anything and still sound incredible. Fans were in awe as she finished her performance, jumping to their feet and screaming along the final lines of the song.
Carrie Underwood is nominated for one Teen Choice Awards. Teenagers can vote for the awards online by following this link. Check out a Carrie Underwood slideshow from this year's CMA Fest performance!
