Attorney Michael S. Hamden spent 10 years on staff with North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services, Inc., and 12 years as Executive Director of that organization. Hamden co-edited The Law and Policy of Sentencing and Corrections (7th ed. 2005) and participates in a number of organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (vice-chair of Corrections Committee); the American Bar Association (co-chaired Corrections and Sentencing Committee, member of Criminal Justice Section Counsel); and the American Correctional Association (former member of ACA Standards Committee; Commission on Accreditation; and presently a Certified Accreditation Auditor). Hamden has also been a consultant to the Institute of Medicine.
