Do your kids want to do crafts, but you think they should eat something first? This is a quick and easy crafty snack that our kids have loved making for years. It fits in perfectly with snowy December weather too.
Ingredients:
2 flour tortillas (smaller ones are easier to handle, but older children may like using larger ones to make more intricate designs)
shredded cheese (cheddar or colby jack work well)
Utensils:
CLEAN safety scissors
microwavable plate
pizza cutter
2 paper towels
microwave
Steps:
- Have your child put a paper towel on the plate and then put one of the tortillas on it.
- Put the other tortilla in the microwave and heat it for 10 seconds to make it pliable.
- Let them fold the warm tortilla in half and then half again. Using their scissors, they can cut out small notches and shapes to make a snowflake design. Have them unfold it when they're done. (It doesn't matter if it breaks along the folds.)
- Have them put the shredded cheese on top of the uncut tortilla and spread it to the edges, and then put the snowflake tortilla on top. Cover it loosely with the other paper towel and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
- When it's done, remove the paper towels and cut the quesadilla into wedges with the pizza cutter or safety scissors.
This is always a huge hit, and older kids can make it without any supervision. If your child is dairy-free, you can make it with peanut butter, hummus, or other spreads.
