Sopapilla cream cheese bar recipe

There are so many versions of this dessert floating around out there. You may have seen it as a Sopapilla cheesecake or Sopapilla cream cheese dessert. In this version of the recipe, I add a zip of cinnamon to the filling.

Sopaipilla, also spelled Sopapilla or Sopaipa is a Spanish word. It is known to be a kind of fried pastry or a dough that is sweetened with honey. Although, this recipes had no honey in it and it is baked and not fried...Go figure!

Sopapilla Cream Cheese Bars

  • 2 cans of crescent rolls
  • 2 packs of cream cheese (8 ounces each), room temperature
  • 1  cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla, heaping
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Topping:

  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350*. Line a 9x13 baking sheet with no stick foil.

Unroll 1 can of rolls and place into the bottom of prepared dish. Press the seams together.

In a large bowl combine together cream cheese, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon until well blended.

Spread mixture over dough.

Unroll second can of rolls and lay over filling, once again pressing seams together.

Pour melted butter over dough.

Mix sugar and cinnamon together and pour over the top.

Bake for 30 minutes. Crust will be lightly browned. Cool before slicing.

I have a recipe similar to this. It's called Williamsburg Bread. Yum! I love the stuff. :)
