Thankfully apples are available to most of us all year through. However, along with fall, comes apple picking!
Enjoy this homemade applesauce recipe hot or cold, chunky or smooth.
Cinnamon Applesauce
- 3 apples, peeled and cut into small cubes
- Cinnamon, to taste
- Sugar, to taste (optional)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp ground Ginger
- Water
Put apples and spices into a non stick pot over low heat.
Pour in 1 inch of water, cover and simmer.
Stir often and continue adding water so that apples do not burn.
Cook for about 20 minutes, stirring and adding water every 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and smash when apples are cooked (soft).
For chunkier sauce, mash while warm with fork.
For a smoother sauce, cool until just warm and add into food processor and pulse until you reach the texture you desire.
Eat warm or refrigerate.
*Note: The sweeter the apples, the sweeter the sauce will be.
