An easy way to load up on cookies would be to host a cookie exchange. A popular time to host one is around Christmastime, but you can have one any time of the year.
They are a lot of fun! There are ways to spice it up a bit as well. You can have contests and play games. Everyone likes to win a prize!
Here is how it works...
- Invite some friends.
A great way to invite your friends and family to an event is to send an evite. (www.evite.com ) You can send them an invitation via email and save on paper and postage. Another plus for the evites are, when people view it or reply to it, you get to see what they write right away.
- Get a head count of how many will be attending.
Its best to get a head count a week before the party. On your evite, you should also ask your guests to reply as to what type of cookie they will be bringing. You want to be sure you do not have doubles. How many versions of a chocolate chip cookie does one really need?
- Have each guest bring 1/2 dozen cookies for each person who will be there.
For example:
If you have 11 people say they will be attending, (including you), have each person bring a total of 60 cookies (6 for each person there). Have your guests package the cookies in increments of 6 per package. (One package for each person)
- Then, have each person (including yourself), bring an additional plate of 12 cookies for everyone to eat at the exchange.
- You can also recommend that guests bring a copy of their recipe for the others. (One for each person)
- You can serve coffee, hot chocolate, tea and ice water (and of course cookies).
It is fun to have prizes for the games and contests.
A fun contest to have would be to give a prize to the most festively dressed or for the best-decorated plate.
Prizes do not have to be elaborate. You can buy things like: candles, soaps, lotions and candy.
Fun games to play might be: a word scramble, bingo or a white elephant game where you provide the gifts!
It is good to make sure you have one prize for each guest to take home.
You can get creative with your exchange. You are not only limited to cookies. You can host a cookie/candy/bar exchange. Your possibilities are endless as to what type of treats you and your guests can bring.
