Lead Poisoning is a terrific new debut crime novel by J. E. Seymour about the fugitive life of hit man and career criminal Kevin Markinson who moves to New Hampshire to be closer to his wife and kids. Seymour leaves us with an overwhelming anticipation of things to come with every turn of the page as we’re swept into the day-to-day life of Kevin Markinson. Seymour’s strong, in-depth character development, easy flowing, effortless dialogue, and unique plot draw you in the moment you begin reading.
Kevin Markinson is not your traditional husband and father, but then again, the Markinson’s are not your typical family! Kevin, former Marine, has been in trouble with the law for most of his life. While in the Marines he was trained as a sniper. Faced with a wife and two kids to support Kevin uses his one marketable skill and ties to the mob and spends the better part of the next twenty-five years as a “hit man.” However recently, firmly entrenched in middle-age and at his wife’s request, Kevin has decided that it’s time to retire and settle down with the family he loves, but barely knows.
Seymour delves deep into the psyche of her main characters revealing their innermost feelings, strengths, and weaknesses; allowing the reader to become intimately familiar with this deeply troubled family. She compares the seemingly and somewhat mundane life Kevin is living now, with that of the life he formerly led. But even in the quiet surroundings of the small New Hampshire town, trouble continues to follow Kevin wherever he goes.
Lead Poisoning is published by Mainly Murder Press and was released in November 2010.
