Not to be taken as a literal battle between students and instructors, a new exhibit at Redux Contemporary Art Center features an exceptionally unique pairing of two groups at very different stages in their artistic careers.
1 x 1, a student/faculty exhibition celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the College of Charleston’s School of the Arts and highlights the soaring achievements of the student body. Featuring outstanding new works by nine studio art faculty, the instructors pair themselves up with students who demonstrate artistic achievements that garner the attention of the greater art world. This exhibition is an opportunity for the faculty to mentor a chosen student as they transition from college to life as a professional artist.
High quality, award winning artist-teachers at the College of Charleston have made it a source of creative excellence that helps to form the center of the city’s art culture. The art school contributes to Charleston’s lively art scene and accounts for a significant part of the energy and sophistication present at exhibitions and events of all kinds.
The parallels don’t end with the exhibit, as Redux has its own connections to the College of Charleston. Founded by graduates of the school in November 2002, they are eager to serve as a resource for young artists throughout the city. The gallery is committed to its mission of presenting contemporary art to the city of Charleston.
Redux Contemporary Art Center is located at 136 St. Philip Street in Charleston and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. 1 x 1 is on view through March 6, 2010.
