Arcade Hockey by Brainjuice
Summer is slipping away.
But you can still hold on to the joys of summer with Arcade Hockey, a new game for the iPhone created by Brainjuice (released August 31, 2009; $2.99).
I am a longstanding fan of air hockey – the rush as you smack the puck with your mallet, the joy of rebounding the puck against a wall and into your opponent’s goal, the slight embarrassment when you knock the puck into your own goal…
But alas, summer is winding down and this game can provide solace when trips to the arcade just aren’t an option. According to its developers, “The game is a simple, fresh take on classic air hockey. Players can choose either one- and two-player game play, and can configure the size of the mallets and puck. The game has an excellent artificial opponent, with three levels of difficulty: Normal, Hard and Expert.”
Much like the real game, the simulated game’s graphics are basic and straightforward – a white playing surface with two goals, a puck, and two mallets. When I played the one-person game play option, I found that while the artificial opponent is indeed worthy, the biggest danger (just like in the real game) was myself, as I often hit the puck into my own goal. The two-person option is also great, and can be played by opposing thumbs or with a friend.
You won’t get the manic, exhilarating background noise of pinball machines and video games that you would in an arcade. Nor will anyone will be on hand to sell you saltwater taffy or candy apples.
But roll up your shirtsleeves. Get your fingers ready and positioned. Envision the sounds and smells of the arcade. And get ready to play air hockey like summer never ended.

Hi Jennifer.
Another wonderful article. Thanks.
We have been writing about iPhone apps for Seniors/Elders for some time, many of which are quite useful for many things, including in home monitoring. In addition, we just wrote an article about "Heathful Apps," a hopefully soon to be released which identifies the iPhone's best apps for your health. We are told the completed app may be available very soon. While we don't know all the "best" apps it will identify, we have learned it will identify "mood lifting" links as part of its package. (We are only able to review a few each week until release.) I hope your readers find this information interesting, and as always they are welcome to read more about these apps on ElderGadget.
Keep up the good work. Thanks Again.
