Kaz Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment chief, announced plans to expand the Playstation Network at CES 2010. The network will encompass network enabled Blu-ray players, Sony brand televisions, and Windows-based PC's. Furthermore, also announced was a new studio specifically designed to provide content for distribution over the PSN. It will be called Sony Network Entertainment, with Hirai as its head.
Hirai explained that the network will provide a single user-based login system for all of the products, thus taking the Playstation Network beyond simple gaming. Video services can be networked to Bravia televisions, Blu-ray players, and Windows PC's beginning next month. Users can log on to their existing PSN accounts on any of the enabled products and purchase content as they would through the PS3.
The expanded PSN has been in the works since last June. Let's hope now that the PSN is going to get better.
