What if Cindy Sheehan held a protest and nobody came?
Sheehan first made headlines in 2005, when she began camping out in front of President George W. Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas. At first, Sheehan said she simply wanted a meeting with Bush to discuss the death of her son Casey, a U.S. Army soldier killed in Iraq.
Sheehan wasn't particularly telegenic or articulate. However, a moribund mainstream media desperate to relive the "glory" days of anti-Vietnam War protests showered her with attention, and Sheehan dutifully reinvented herself as an all-around radical with a growing list of political peeves.
Public sympathy for the mourning mother eventually turned to disgust, as Sheehan's self-promoting pronouncements grew increasingly petulant. Meanwhile, she cozied up to the likes of Hugo Chavez and the terrorist-abetting "radical attorney" Lynne Stewart.
Since President Bush was the focus of Sheehan's wrath, one might have expected that the election of Barack Obama would have sent the nation's most famous agitator into retirement. But Sheehan now plans to transplant her anti-war protests to the new President's Martha's Vineyard retreat. Chances are, though, she'll find herself alone, without her Code Pink retinue of America-haters or her erstwhile media cheerleaders.
As Byron York observed in the Washington Examiner, "...opposing the war was really about opposing George W. Bush. When Bush disappeared, so did their anti-war passion."
Incredibly, Sheehan herself seems to agree. Today, York reported that after reading his column, Sheehan contacted him via email and wrote, in part:
I mostly agree with you. The "anti-war" "left" was used by the Democratic Party. I like to call it the "anti-Republican War" movement.
In a follow up phone call with York, Sheehan added:
"I think people are starting to wake up to the fact that even if they supported Obama, he doesn't represent much change."

I'm no fan of Cindy Sheehan but I'll give her this. She is consistant and apparently not impressed with Obama. Good for her.
Don't look for the press to cover this ! When you have a Democratic president, she's no longer a heroic mother... she becomes a pest ! This is not comment about Ms. Sheehan's actions.... only the bias that is present in our media.
whoever wrote this article is a complete idiot! What are you trying to accomplish? How cool it would be for a mother who lost her son in an illegal un-declared war to have to protest all alone? I for one feel Cindy's pain after fighting in the Iraq war during the invasion. I too feel lied to and betrayed by my country. Iraq had nothing to do with Sep 11th. I hope that the people of the commonwealth will greet this patriot with open arms and join her in her rally. Let the president know that ending the Iraq war was the reason he was voted for. Also let him know that his cash for clunkers program is pointless because we are at war! Duh! cars in the U.S make about as much pollution as one freaking tank you bone head! Great job throwing away our tax dollars. Great job with the bailouts and the hyper inflation of our dollar. In ten years it might be worth a penny and if Im lucky I will have a hundred bucks in my 401K. Thanks Pres!

Obama already has committed numerous impeachable offenses. Conducting military operations in Pakistan with no authorization and refusing to investigate violations of the Convention against torture signed by Ronald Reagan are the two most egregious.
Why are you right-wing lunatics fixating on bologna like Birth Certificates when there are genuine crimes being committed? The answer is simple. Your love of war and torture is greater than your hatred for Barack Obama and the Constitution.

Cindy Sheehan is one of the few real leftists who actually stick by their principles. The supposed "left" in this country (read: centrist Democrats) is full of disingenuous people who are more interested in party-line politics and advancing the careers of their pols as if they were a football team, than in actually adhering to a static, consistent principle and standing up for something they really believe in.
Those of us who care about our principles continue to protest war, because we believe that war is wrong, not because we believe that Democrat War is right and Republican War is wrong.
The sad reality is that like 75% of the anti-war movement was no more than an anti-Republican movement disguised as an anti-war movement.
Ms. Sheehan is not one of those people. She is a true, compassionate liberal who believes in her principles, and not a personality worshipper without backbone, which is what most Democrats are.
Well, at least she's consistent.
Do a google search for "Crazy Cidy" and see the truth. Crazy Cindy IS consistant. So was Charles Manson. She does what she does for M-O-N-E-Y! Everywhere she goes she gets paid. Ask her! She sold Camp Casey in Crawford, Texas, for a $35K profit after claiming she would turn it into a "Peace Center". She's hoe, standing on the coffin of her son, a genuine war hero, with a bullhorn in one hand and a tin cup in the other.
