(Crown Forum: Random House)
I just heard Ann Coulter explain the "I-was-banned-for-life-from-NBC" story that was making the rounds yesterday. She's a guest on FOX & Friends this morning, and was on Hannity & Colmes last night, and I caught both appearances.
And I still don't "get" it.
I wish her publicists at Crown Forum had come up with an easier to digest "controversy" to coincide with the release of her new book Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America
Like, say, concentrating on the thesis of her book, which sounds pretty reasonable to me.
Mostly because I've been saying and writing about the same idea for years at my blog.
That is: that throughout history, people who craved honor and attention pretended to be heroes: think about the old jokes about guys in the nut house who thought they were Napoleon or Jesus, or the crazy uncle in Arsenic and Old Lace who believes he's Theodore Roosevelt.
Sometime around the 1970s, however, the magnetic poles of heroism switched.
Today, if you want honor and attention, you vie to be seen as a victim. Think of Tawana Brawley. Fake memoirs abound in which the authors claim to have been everything from Holocaust survivors to impoverished ghetto girls. Fake Vietnam vets are practically epidemic.
It's a fascinating phenomenon that says a lot (none of it flattering) about our liberal-run society.
That's why I've written about it so much at my blog.
Alas, unlike Ann Coulter, I don't have a juicy multi-book contract with a big publishing company.
And unlike all those liberal "victims," I'm not going to whine about that.
Instead, I'll say what I always say about Ann Coulter: she's a lot better on paper than she is on tv or on the radio. So if she turns you off or just leaves you cold when you see interviews with her, please: take a chance and read her instead.
You might just learn something, and laugh at the same time, corny as it sounds.
Ann Coulter doesn't need these goofy imaginary controversies to sell books -- in fact, this "banned for life" non-starter makes her look like the very folks she condemns in Guilty.

Yet they would put on Hitler if he was alive.
read Ann Coulter?? You must be kidding me. The conservative right wing love to play the "victim" card. Examples: The "liberal" media is out to get us. "gotcah" journalism. It goes on and on and on... I can only hope that the level of political discourse improves over my daughters liftetime. It certainly has gone to pot in mine. If you don't like the "liberal" this and "liberal" that DO SOMETHING about rather than complain. The whole right is an embarrassment to the American way of life. You've lost your way and refuse to admit it. You have no political rock to stand on other that you shun anything that doesn't fit into your narrow, compartmentalized way of viewing the world. You are the ones hurting our country and I for one am really fed up with it. It's time for your party to mature, change and adapt to the real world.

Coulter ban from NBC? Add Milken to list and I really will believe there is a God! Some pathetic whiners!!!!!!!!!
Jim: "narrow, compartmentalized way of viewing the world"
Patrick: Hahahaha. Where do you life, sir? You should try being a gay conservative in Los Angeles. You would find out very quickly who really has a "narrow, compartmentalized way of viewing the world." Hint. It's not conservatives.
I agree with you - she is much better read than seen or heard. She is banned from my TV for life! ...but I will still read her books.
PatrickP - where do you life sir? Not sure, but I think you were meaning to say "live" right? As in "where do you live, sir?" Just saying, maybe you should try being a gay conservative who edits his posts. Or not.
Yes, Graham. Thats what i meant. based on youre response your brite enough to figere out what i wuz saying. good four you.
Now grow up and try to respond to my comment rather than acting like a 12 year old girl. Child.
HotAir has the very latest:
NBC is making nice, PLUS a must see video from an interview Coulter did this morning

The Bard said it better than me about
Ann Coulter or the rest of us for that matter, in larger or smaller doeses per individual.
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.

Ann Coulter lost me when in her book "Treason" she called George Marshall a traitor. She should have known better than to repeat such a falsehood. I will not shell out any money for any book by her again.
Ann Coulter comes across as a very mean person and mean people are dangerous. At the very least, it's bad for your mental health to be around mean people. I keep them far, far away. But one time I saw her on the cover of some mag, in some short dress w/her legs crossed and they looked like sticks. My god, I thought, she's anorexic. And that's a sign of mental illness. That would explain her rage; she's mentally ill. I don't mean that as a sarcastic joke; I'm serious. I feel sorry for her. I also saw some snippets from her book in articles and I'm very pleased to report I'm an exception to a fact she notes in her book, I was raised in a divorced household and I didn't grow up to be a stripper, criminal, or rapist! Though I'm uncomfortable w/lumping those three together; I don't see anything wrong w/being a stripper. I've known strippers.
Sounds like she is playing victim and crying wolf. Isn't that what her book is about?
"Mean people are dangerous" -- good lord, that's a new one. What's next, promoting fines for frowning in public and jail time for not using your inside voice? Dealing with the Nicey-American (and Nicey-Canadian and Nicey-British) contingent is like being nibbled to death by a duck.
Anybody that gets banned by the National Bias Communist network gets my support 110%.
All of you who take Coulter seriously are nuts! She has an act and she is doing very well with it. Best sellers all.
I love Ann Coulter and I've never heard her say anything I thought was controversial, or mean, although a lot of other people always got all stirred up for some reason. Her detractors are very passionate. Am I missing something?
Ann Coulter was held back a grade in school. Why? Dumb! Enough said.
Very few things expose a person's ignorance and intolerance like declaring themselves an Ann Coulter fan. She is a shill appealing to the worst in people to grasp at every thread of fame she can possible reach. She is the Madonna of Punditry, and that is the worst possible thing you can call someone.
