What Does Victory Look Like?

For years now, the Left, in its attacks on the strategy in Iraq, has complained that no one really knows what success in Iraq looks like. It seemed beyond comprehension to envision a stable Iraq.

This year has been marked, however, by signs of success, including the Iraqis taking control of the Anbar province, once the most violent in all of Iraq.

Now, there's a new achievement to add to the list:

On Monday, the first edition of economic newspaper al-Madina al-Iqtesadiya was published in the city of Mosul, 405 km north of Baghdad.

According to the editor-in-chief, Emad al-Din al-Amin,"The paper will be published on a weekly basis and will be financed through advertisments and press services."

Congratulations to an increasingly stable and healthy Iraq--and to the men and women within Iraq and around the world who have helped make that victory possible.

Both events are great news and checkpoints along the way to a more stable, functioning Iraq.

But I'm still confused about how this will end up.

    For example,

What if Iraq becomes a Shia dominated and Iran aligned nation state?

What if Iraq, like most of it's neighbors, becomes an enemy of Israel?

What if the Kurds continue to promote insurgencies in Turkey?

The probability of all these things occurring is pretty high.

Do you consider that a success?
