"Blue Dog" Allen Boyd has voted with his party 96% of the time

Representative Allen Boyd, D-FL / (UPI)

Allen Boyd (D-FL), U.S. Representative for Florida's second district has voted with his own party 96% of the time. One may expect that number to be lower from a fiscally conservative "Blue Dog" Democrat but apparently it ain't so.

It is obvious that Boyd has some explaining to do. The second district of Florida was carried by John McCain in 2008 by a margin of 54% to 45%, yet Boyd thinks it's wise to vote with Nancy Pelosi 96% of the time? Pelosi has a 34% approval rating in her own state and Boyd even voted for her when she ran for the position of Speaker of the House.

What gives?

How can you call yourself a fiscally conservative Blue Dog yet vote in step with the same party who just tripled the highest deficit in history (Bush's 2008) from 400 billion dollars to 1.4 trillion dollars, all the while blaming "the mess" on your predecessor?

Seriously?

The people of District 2 are smarter than that.

Look for some serious competition to Boyd's vulnerable seat from the likes of Paul McKain, Eddie Hendry, and Steve Southerland in 2010.

He's become so comfortable in his position, that he's forgotten his roots. He's given into the peer pressure of his party like a child, instead of standing up for his constituents like a man. One more reason on a very long list, to put term limits in place.

On the non-partisan website Opencongress.org, Mr. Boyd's approval rating is 21 percent. The data there backs up the data in your posting.

As an example, a large number of taxpayers in District 2 contacted Mr. Boyd to express their dislike of Cap & Trade, but he still voted for it. Now that the global warming sham has been debunked, can we get our money back???

My key concern is likewise that Mr. Boyd does not listen to his voters. A Representative by definition should represent the voters, not special interests like Political Action Committees (PACs). According to the Federal Election Commission (fec.gov), Mr. Boyd has received PAC money this year at a rate of almost 3:1 over that from individuals, and his campaign has over $1.7 million "cash on hand". Not bad work if you can get it.

Excellent website, keep up the great work.
