The dumbing down of America

Dumbing Down of America/Amazon.com

I think our schools are turning out dumber kids. Are you of the same opinion? Join the crowd. As a parent, I can't come up with empirical studies to prove my point, but at a gut level I know it. So do most parents. So why is that?

Ask Charlotte Iserbyt, the author of the book pictured in this article, The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America. She's no stranger to education. She was an activist  in education for more than 30 years. She began on a philosophy committee for a school, then a school board member, then co-founder of an activist organization to save the schools, and finally wound up as a senior adviser in the Department of Education during Reagan's first term.

She learned that promoters of progressive education use the "ends justifies the means" concept. She wrote, "Our change agent superintendent . . . was more at home with a lie than he was with the truth." I also, in getting my Master's degree in Education from Sam Houston State University, came across the same idea in a 500 level college textbook.

It was during her tenure at the Department of Education, when she had access to grant proposals from change agents across the nation; she saw that what was happening was a concerted effort on the part of numerous organizations. A globalist elite wanted to permanently change the American body politic by brainwashing the students. She leaked some sensitive material to the press and was fired for it.

The above information is extracted from the article by Samuel Blumefeld, "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America," 12/16/99, WorldNetDaily.com. But he's not the only one to notice this effort.

In 1953, parents from across America complained to their congressmen and women that their children were being brainwashed by the universities across the country. They complained about the deliberate teaching of socialism and communism, the denigrating of traditional American values along with the Founding Fathers, and the devaluing of capitalism.

Congress responded by forming the Reece Committee. Their chief investigator, Norman Dodd, told about an interview he had with the President of the Ford Foundation, Rowan Gaither. Gaither bluntly told Dodd that he operated under directives that he was to use the Foundation's grant making powers to make the universities teach liberal values that would merge the United States with the Soviet Union. Dodd said that he nearly fell off his chair. No wonder they were preaching the virtues of Communism! This was disclosed by Dodd in his interview with G. Edward Griffin in 1982, shortly before Dodd's death.
