This seems to be the question of the day from the Right, the Left, and everyone in between. With no official numbers as of yet, there continues to be widespread speculation.
FreedomWorks had originally planned the sound system to be able to reach 100,000 people at the event, but they are now reporting that most of the people in attendance could not hear the speakers.
YouTube user JohnDarash, who was at the rally, had this to say,
The media will have you to believe that only thousands or perhaps tens of thousands of people came to Washington. Well, the media does what it does best and that is to not report on anything that is not the will of the governing elite. But I am here to tell you that so many people showed up on 9-12 that Washington all but shut down. I cant say what one or two million people looked like but if I were to guess I would have to say it looked like Washington DC on 9-12-2009: ABC reported 1.5 Million people and Home Land Security reported 2 Million.
The Wizbang blog posted a time-lapse video of the march down Pennsylvania Avenue that shows the area growing larger and larger with the protestors.
Main stream media outlets not surprisingly reported much lower numbers than the first-hand videos and pictures seem to be showing. The New York Times reported only "thousands" of people showed up, and Politifact reported that the Fire and Emergency Department "unofficially" estimated the crowds numbers at between 60,000 and 75,000, even though the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department told Wnd.com that they do not provide crowd estimates.
Hopefully there will be some official final tally to put this matter to rest, but there is something more important to take away from this event than a number. Watch the videos, view the pictures, listen to the people who were there. They are all saying the same thing in one clear, loud voice - They are tired of big government, out of control spending, and zero accountability.

Where were you guys when Bush was screwing our kids with 1.7 trillion tax cut for the rich during a war, forcing us to borrow more money from overseas. When he gifted the banks 780 Billion. Oh yeah, the self admitted "false pretense" war in Iraq. Now the Taliban is stronger than ever in Afganistan and you Right Wing Self Ritheous Zombies want to blame Obama for our deficit. We were already in the hole for 900 Billion+780 Billion+1.7 Trillion before the elections. unfortunately, no one can fix this, thank you Bush and the 8 years of rapethepublican's rule!!
If there WERE a million plus at this "grass roots" event - that tells me nothing except there are 1 million brain dead lemmings doing the bidding of their corporate overlords. Trillions on an illegal and immoral war - yeah that's ok - healthcare for your fellow citizens? SCREW THAT! I'm protesting! When did ignorance become such a highly valued character trait in this country?
Jezdukowski you are a moron. That was the most pathetic waste of text I believe I have read to date. You are probably still sitting on your parent's couch in your tightee whitees, unshaven with cheetos on your breathe watching Jerry Springer re-runs. You are quite the political analyst, on the cutting edge even. The lazy and pathetically work ethic challenged usually suffer from a complete paralysis and inability to comprehend things like freedom, capitalism, and a pursuit of happiness. You are no doubt a mouch, a parasite, and a shame to your parents. Get a life. Shave, brush your teeth find a job. Read the constitution. I warn you, its full of big words but when your mom gets home maybe she can help you. Maybe Acorn can help you to become into a great career like pimping underage illegal alien girls. I hear the money is good. Maybe you could afford you own couch one day. You are my greatest fear for future survival of our republic. As a patriotic service please don't breed
Yeah, i was there. sorry, even 200,000 would be a very generous estimate. I was also at obama's inauguration, the estimates there are 1-1.2 million. The scale was just completely different. sorry guys, let's actually tell the truth about the numbers at the event. yes, there are a lot of angry people out there, and we should let our voices be heard, but let's stop spreading lies.

Why did you gather your supporters and fill the mall? Where were you? Sitting on your couch and screaming at the TV? You should have had your own march like the 9/12. Lazy

Get your facts straight Mike, the president doesn't have that kind of power, the 780 Billion dollar gift was given by CONGRESS and the majority of congress is made up of DEMOCRATS! I'm not a republican or a democrat, neither can be trusted. You should realize this! By the way here are the numbers in case you're interested, from now on it would be wise to do a little research before forming an opinion.
Democrats who voted for the bailout: 140
Democrats who voted against the bailout: 95
Republicans who voted for the bailout: 65
Republicans who voted against the bailout: 133
Self Righteous Zombies form opinions without supporting their claims! The Right and the Left are working in cahoots, and blaming each other for what they're both doing, that is the real problem.
Tax cuts aren't the problem, spending is the problem. The government has plenty of revenue, we just waste money left and right, be it on a needless war, subsidies for big business (such as the farm bill that Obama supported) and a the welfare state.
