Best conservative politics in 2009, from the Biggest Little City, Nevada: Part I

The Biggest Little City in the World is much like yours.

From heroes to hooligans, a Nevada conservative revisits the news that made a difference in her world, and ours. Click on the blue links for the full stories, and subscribe to her Examiner page to read more from this author in 2010.

American women rock... In America, little girls can grow up to become anything they want: ballerinas, basketball players, heads of state... even Tom Cruise's wife. A few brave lassies become soldiers, cops and heroes. And sometimes they become all three, without wiggling their noses or clicking their ruby slippers. Not in Kansas but Killeen, a little girl all-grown-up, Sgt. Kimberly Munley, became a true red-white-and-blue American hero, in the blink of a feminine eyelash.

Speaking of the wicked witch... House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered the health care reform bill, all 2000+ pages of it, to the Senate, and claimed the win was easy, but facts, fans and foes say otherwise. Pelosi caused several pro-abortion House Dems to melt, wicked witch-like, into a puddle of boogers and tears, when she added her turncoat amendment to block the bill's abortion funding. Apparently, the end justifies “all means necessary” to Pelosi, whose late-night tactics evoked decidedly less complimentary descriptions: "back-stabber" and “ball-buster” are just a few.

The good witch from Alaska... Best-selling book author, ex-politician and private citizen, Sarah Palin continues to mesmerize the public and befuddle the media. Palin doesn't follow the rules: She's not scripted, not packaged and not in sync with old school journalists like Barbara Walters, who openly cringe at Palin's street-wise jargon.

Sarah says "bull crap,"  "my bad," and repeats her dad's mantra, "I didn’t retreat... I reloaded," with a wink, not the whimper Palin haters wished for.

Congress, can you hear us now?  ... Senators know the majority of Americans are against a massive government takeover of health care, 1/6 of the economy, but still they voted to debate this bill. Nevada's own Harry Reid led the charge, oblivious to the mutinous voters waiting for him back home. Most Americans agree something must be done to "fix" what ails our health care system, but this bill won’t fix what's broken.

No Happy Thanksgiving? ... When Best Buy printed “Happy Eid al-Adha” on its Thanksgiving holiday advertising circular, it caused a PR firestorm at corporate and an avalanche of good 'ole American anger in cyberspace. If the Net could light up like phone banks of yesteryear, the Earth would have flashed like a disco ball. Best Buy forgot to wish Americans, “Happy Thanksgiving,” a glaring oversight caught by bloggers who question political correctness when it eliminates good 'ole American traditions.

A "cheet-ah" not a Tiger ... Tiger Woods' fantastic fall from grace kept the cyberspace ball flashing. The God of Golf, the big dog of doo-doo, or just a terribly faulted, typical man? While everyone scurried to read the latest blog, we missed the most glaring of Tiger's flaws. "I have not been true to my values...." How can Tiger claim honesty, loyalty and monogamy are his values, if he doesn't follow them? Are our values what we say they are, what we imagine them to be, or what we prove they are, every day, by our actions?

Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions.  You may have a heart of gold - but so does a hard-boiled egg.  ~Author Unknown
