American women get 'er done, thanks to Sgt. Kimberly Munley, US Army veteran

Little girls who dream it, can be it, in America. Even heroes.

]]> */ In America, little girls learn they can grow up to become anything they want: ballerinas, movie stars... even Tom Cruise's wife. Some dream of becoming basketball players, business owners or heads of state.

Thankfully, a few brave lassies become soldiers, cops and heroes. And sometimes they become all three, without wiggling their noses or clicking their ruby slippers.

Every day, men and women bravely and selflessly protect human life, liberty and freedom, in battlefields and war-torn cities around the world, and sometimes, in Killeen, Texas. That’s where a little girl all-grown-up became a true red-white-and-blue American hero, in the blink of a feminine eyelash.

Sgt. Kimberly Munley, 34, is a DoD civilian police officer at Ft.Hood. She is also a veteran, having served as a loyal soldier in the United States Army. As such, Sgt. Munley took an oath to defend her Army brothers and sisters against any hostile force, even if it meant killing a fellow Army officer.

On November 6, 2009, Sgt. Munley saved the lives of more than 300 innocent service men and women who happened to be in the right place, Ft.Hood, at most definitely the wrong time.

Those who know Munley say she was exactly the right person, at the right place and time. An advanced firearms instructor and civilian member of FortHood's special reaction team, Munley trained on "active shooter" scenarios after the 2007 mass shootings at VirginiaTechUniversity. The same kind of senseless killing rampage at Ft. Hood was exactly what she’d trained for.

Certainly she didn’t expect to become a hero that day, when she left home to get her car serviced. She happened to be in the neighborhood, when she heard the 911 “shots fired” call for help. The first officer to arrive outside the auditorium, Munley saw soldiers running and a shooter firing guns from both hands. She did what she was trained to do. She aimed and fired at the shooter. He turned and began to gun her down, Rambo-like.

It’s hard to imagine the diminutive Munley, barely 5-feet, standing up against a charging maniac in an Army major uniform, brandishing guns in each hand. The gunman’s bullets hit her wrists and thighs, but she stood firm, seemingly ten feet tall. In less than a minute, she put four rounds right where she wanted, in the advancing murderer's center of mass. With a little help from her partner, Sr. Sgt. Mark Todd, who joined her from the side, the shooter dropped, and the killing stopped.

Kimberly Munley, the all-grown-up American girl, took on the murdering madman before he could kill one more innocent soul. David and Goliath, meet America's lil' Kim and the Radical Muslim.

Sgt. Munley’s husband is a soldier at Ft. Bragg, NC.  Clearly, he married well. Kimberly Munley gives new meaning to the term, “trophy wife.” Other men might want to rethink their vision of the ideal woman. "Short and packin' " is handy to have around, in case of emergency.

On this day, let us forget about what ails our nation. Congress, Pelosi and health care reform don’t seem to matter all that much, in light of a much bigger picture. Munley's bravery in the face of certain death reminds us that freedom, our freedom, is worth fighting for. Thank her, and God, for another day above ground in America, where little girls can grow up to be all that they can be.

Including soldiers, cops and national heroes.

Gee, I really wished you'd kept to your intent to NOT politicize and taint the purpose of your article by using a partisan close - our miltary lives, breathes, sleeps, serves, sacrifices and even risk life itself on a far higher level than most civilians can even imagine. All we ask is that our civilian society NOT forget - and remember us with due dignity and full respect! Sadly, too many politicize and commercialize Veterans - and it's just not acceptable on Veteran's Day and Memorial Day! May we please have just these two days a year without the partisan propaganda - PLEASE!

Duly noted, John. Actually, my close supported your shout out for ban on propaganda. It says, "let us forget...." But I get your point. Thanks for the read!

Kelly, you know I luv ya though we come at things from opposite political angles often - you can't logically make a statement like "...let us forget what ailes our nation" then contradict your point by reminding us of HALF the problem - that's not being intellectually honest gurlfren!

So, as a writer, I'd respectfully suggest you either choose to NOT use any partisan referances (my preferance on Veteran's Day and Memorial Day) or, nail BOTH parties for failing us all!

Keep in mind approximately 90% of our casualties and cost could have been avioided by staying focused on the Just War in Afghanistan and NOT starting an Unjust War in Iraq!
