I’d like to thank Senator Tom Harkin for being honest about the Democrat’s plan to ram a single-payer system down the throats of the American people. In a comment aimed at his progressive colleagues, Harkin compared the current Senate health care bill to building a house:
“What we are buying here is a modest home, not a mansion. What we are getting here is a starter home. It’s got a good foundation: 30 million Americans are covered. It’s got a good roof: A lot of protections from abuses by insurance companies. It’s got a lot of nice stuff in there for prevention and wellness. But, we can build additions as we go along in the future. It is a starter home. Think about it in that way,”
The Democrat’s ultimate plan should be rather obvious, but just in case you’re not too good with metaphors, here is Senator Harkin’s restatement of the idea above:
“At some point in the near future, and I don’t know exactly how long it is going to be, we are going to have some sort of a public option out there,” he said. “We might not get it in this bill, but it will come in as the years go by and as people begin to look at insurance companies and how much they are charging. I have no doubt in my mind that we are going to have to go to some kind of a public option, some type of a single-payer type system to bring the costs down. When the administrative costs of Medicare is somewhere around the 3 percent range, but the administrative costs of the private insurance companies are in the 15 percent range, there is a lot of money that can be saved by going to a better system such as a single-payer or a public option-type system.”
So, there you go. Sneak in a health care bill with no single-payer system, then gradually make changes which will increase government interference and make it more difficult for insurers to compete. That’s their plan of course, but things will change drastically if Republicans can regain control of the House and gain seats in the Senate in 2010.

As most the current country does not want this socialist fiscal nightmare of a health care reform I am soooooo glad the democrats are passing it as they do not care what we want - they just want to turn the country into a welfare redistributing socialist stink hole. Vote every Democrat out in 2010. Then at least we can block the damage the incompetent delusional empty suit in the white house is trying to do.
I wish I could comment but Robert NYC said it all. Social Democrats = Socialism
Study history. All social reform begins with baby steps. Look at the history of Social Security, Medicare, Civil Rights -- all of which were condemned by the Republican Party. Seriously, you need to study history. I sincerely question your use of the word "ram" here because it does not apply. Elections have results and Democrats have the majority now. Learn to live with that fact.
Vote all Dems out next year for ignoring the will of the people. Congress should not be passing laws that the majority of the people don't want.
I despise Obama and the Demoncrats because they are trying to take health care away from my disabled child and my elderly mother. And yes, I have read both bills - at least the parts of them they have made public.
The operative term always used is that 30 million or more people have 'no health insurance'. That does not mean that they are not getting health care. But that's what people are supposed to 'assume' when they hear that statement. I had no health care insurance and no money to pay medical bills, and recently got the best and fastest health care I ever received. Including costly diagnostics and surgery. No 'insurance' does not mean no health care. Doctors and hospitals, except for the hosp Michele Obama headed, are not usualy turning away the needy. This administration doesn't care about people's health, they want power to control the nation. Vote them all out!!
Study history you say? Study Social Security? The bankrupt entitlement that is the worst performing retirement plan available to anyone in the United States? OK, let's: Social Security fails like every other socialist program that relies on the socialists taking money from people to do what they think those people should be doing with it. All these socially conscious liberals making millions per year, traveling around in limos while poor people die. Spare us you drivel.
