President Obama's plan to scare the bejeezus out of average Americans in order to push through his massive government spending package that could never have been passed otherwise is officially a success, according to a recent CNN poll.
Seventy-three percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday say they're very or somewhat scared about the way things are going in the United States. That's six points higher than in an October poll.
Nearly eight in 10 say things are going badly in the country, with just 21 percent suggesting that things are going well. The survey also says that three out of four Americans are angry about the way things are going in the country.
Three out of four Americans are scared. One could say this should be expected, given the economic times we are in, and that most people aren't doing well. But this is not the case.
But three out of four questioned say that things are going well for them personally.
Instead what we see is the product of the mainstream media combining with President Obama to frighten the American people into tolerating the intolerable. They have taken an economic downturn and blown it up into the "worst economy since the Great Depression," as both the media and the President repeatedly call it, ignoring the meltdown of 1975-1982.
(Note to the three of you who keep looking my direction... Yes, I'm the one of us four who's not scared. It's a nice way to live. You should try it some time.)
And (not surprisingly as Bill Dupray notes) when people are scared they aren't very confident, either.
When you talk down the economy every day and offer no hope (where's the Hope?) or even optimism about the future, or even about your own economic plan for that matter, why would we expect consumer confidence to be up? Looks like in the span of one month Obama has brought us right back to Jimmy Carter.
Well done, President Obama.

Who in hell did CNN poll to get these crazy results? ACORN? Obviously.
What scare tactics are you referring to? I haven't seen scare tactics since the days of President Bush, who, by the way, got us into this economic downturn.
You didn't notice the 25 uses of the word "crisis" in Obama's last televised speech?
Pray tell me what exactly GWB did to get us into this economic downturn? I recall him warning against the lack of regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and what the consequences would be - accurately. I recall him being ignored by Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and Barack Obama, who all were making money hand over fist from Fannie and Freddie.
Do tell. This should be entertaining.
