Breaking: Obama shuts down 33% of the country's oil refining capacity

Whereas Obama is trying to crush Arizona by suing it into the ground to prevent it from defending itself from illegal immigration, and it is preventing any clean up efforts in Louisiana after 71 days, it has just been learned from one of our conatcts in Texas that Obama by way of the EPA has just shut down today 33% of the country’s refining capacity.

While Obama was unsuccessful at putting a moratorium on oil drilling, he was able to accomplish the same thing by putting a stranglehold on oil refining which accomplishes the same thing. With 1/3rd of the country’s oil refining gone what do you think this will do to the economy?

This was the inherent threat that Obama had presented for months. Either give him Cap and Trade or we will shut everything down through the EPA.

What do you think this will do to the economy of Texas.

Let's recap what has happened in the last 90 days.

Obama is going after Arizona and trying to cut off all border security aide while suing the state even though the state of Missouri has had  the identical Arizona immigration law for the last five years.

He is making no attempt to stop the oil leak in Louisiana. This is now affecting the economies of Louisiana, Texas, Georgia and Florida.

He is going after Texas and with this double whammy of shutting down the refineries and the oil spill the state that was doing the best in the country is now being taken down.

So far Obama has completely trashed five states and is in the process of destroying their economies. What chance do you think there is of a recovery

Hope and change! Totalitarianism is here!

EPA overturns 16-year-old Texas permit program

By RAMIT PLUSHNICK-MASTI, Associated Press Writer Ramit Plushnick-masti, Associated Press Writer Wed Jun 30, 5:35 pm ET

HOUSTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday officially overturned a 16-year-old Texas air permitting program it says violates the Clean Air Act, leaving some of the country's largest refineries in a state of limbo. The move comes after years of backdoor bickering, negotiations and public arguments between the EPA and Texas. The argument recently escalated from a battle over environmental issues into a heated political dispute over states' rights.

He has been using it to drive home his contention that President Barack Obama's administration is overreaching, saying in a statement Wednesday that "Texas will continue to fight this federal takeover of a successful state program."The EPA's decision, announced in a statement, will force some 125 refineries and petrochemical plants to invest millions of dollars to get new permits. Many of the plants may also have to invest in updates to comply with federal regulations.” More…

Uh, no. Not a single refinery has been shut down. Nor any reason to think any will be. Some of the dirtier ones may have to upgrade their equipment. Which they will. There are plenty of reasons oil refiners like Texas, other than lax air pollution laws.

This information apparently happened just today. Apparently the EPA has shut down these 6 refineries in Texas.

Gil, what makes you think that ANY refinery or plant has been shutdown? Here is a local article on what is happening:

    galvestondailynews.com/story/160182

Note what it says about the facilities whose permits have been yanked: "EPA Regional Administrator Al Armendariz said none of the facilities will be required to shut down but all will be required to obtain new permits under stricter guidelines."

You are all missing the larger point - so what if refineries have or have not been closed, or if they have to get new permits. The crux or the problem is the overbearing government intrusion on the private sector. They make it harder and harder for business to exist and operate in this country therefore rendering the government more powerful

And do you for one moment think the EPA is going to issue any permits in a timely manner? Doubtful.

As more information comes in it doesn't look like any refineries are going to be shut down. They are going to have to go through an incredibly expensive and possibly time consuming bureaucratic hell to get new permits.I agree with Ronnie's comments. Whatever part of the private sector this administration wants to take over or control it attacks and demonizes (bankers, wall street, doctors, health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, car companies, oil companies, the coal industry, the mortgage industry, you get the picture. Private free-enterprise endeavors bad, statist government good. We are at a crossroads. Do we want a soft tyranny socialist state that trashes the Constitution and makes up things by the rule of men as it goes along or do we want to preserve and protect our Constitutional government , the rule of law, and all the great values and way of life that has made America the greatest nation in human history and the last best hope of humanity for freedom and liberty?

So they pay millions in permits to stay open... I'm sure they will just eat the losses and not pass any of that on to us? Highly doubtful.

Hmm. Fine; Obama wants to shut down the Texas refineries. Then the oil companies should shut down ALL refined oil products up the Colonial pipeline past Tennessee. Let Obama's EPA (and the rest of DC) WALK TO WORK for a month or two, then see who still wants crap-n-traitor to be passed.

Or better yet, let Texas and the rest of the Gulf Coast states, along with Arizona and whomever wants to join them SECEDE, and tell the Obamunists and the EPA and the rest to go straight to hell- or back to Washington. Same difference...

Love the alarmist headline....which has no basis in fact. And love the citation that it was learned from a "contact" in Texas. While the journalists at the Galveston County Daily News actually got the EPA to go on the record and say no refineries would be closed.

But I really do love reading stuff like this...it is just as entertaining as the stuff over on The Onion. How about taking it even further and writing an article like: "Evil Agency Created by President Nixon Bombs Refineries in Texas".

Or, maybe you could write what this issue is really about...states rights. Nah...it's more fun to be a "sky is falling alarmist"...no wonder the liberals are always at it.

First of all, you need spell check. Sounds like another Hispanic regulator enforcing power within a government agency to hold oil companies hostage until they get amnesty for the people. LOL....More money for the government in fees..that will be passed on to the gas guzzling SUV owners of America...get a scooter, electric one...

Stop giving Mark Levin fans a bad name....Gil wrote this article that is full of spelling errors, grammatical errors, and exaggerations of fact.

Doesn't Texas have a national guard that the governor can mobilize?

Mobilize them to ring the refinery and fire that bad boy up again, we need the gas. If the EPA tries to do anything, well according to the constitution there's no basis for the EPA to exist so it's an illegal intrusion and under the 10th amendment null and void. If they want to press the issue then they can deal with the results.

It's about time for Texas to step up and regain it's sovereignty again.

Best news I've heard is that the Extreme Left is angry with Obama. Since we know the Extreme Right is also angry with Obama we can deduct that what he is doing must be the correct thing.
To put it in terms that readers here can understand, I don't want the extreme lefties giving away tax money and restricting my freedom and I don't want the the extreme Righties giving the major corperations the right to take my money from me and inslaving me and my childern. Basically there is no difference between the extreme left and extreme Right except who they want to give my money to and what freedoms they want to take from me. It appears the only place left is in the middle and since both left and right are mad at Obama he must be in the middle.
