Profiles in Cowardice: Rep Mark Kirk (R-IL)

Rep. Mark Kirk

Mark won the 10th District seat for Illinois for the first time 2000. It took him almost $5.5 million to hold in 2008 with a squeaking five-point margin. Resting on the I-94 corridor up to North Chicago, I am sure he was relieved. So were we when the stimulus vote came (Organized Exploitation has a good write-up), but then came the Waxman vote, and good ole Markey boy folded like a lawn chair.

Sitting on the Appropriations Committee, one would think he understood numbers. But, alas, perhaps this is the insight we receive from an attorney-turned-legislator - he can see numbers that are in his face, ergo the negative stimulus vote, but can't comprehend numbers like future degradation of GDP through the cap-and-trade fiasco. Just a tad too complicated for good ole Marky boy. Sigh ...

Instead of railing him for his special-interest positions, let's give him the "Political Courage Test." This should be fun!

The "X" indicates Marky boy's selection:

Abortion Issues Indicate which principles you support (if any) concerning abortion.

a) Abortions should always be illegal.
b) Abortions should be illegal when the fetus is viable, with or without life support.
X c) Abortions should always be legally available.
d) Abortions should be legal only within the first trimester of pregnancy.
e) Abortions should be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape.
f) Abortions should be legal when the life of the woman is endangered.
g) Abortions should be limited by waiting periods and notification requirements as decided by each state government.
h) Prohibit the dilation and extraction procedure, also known as "partial birth" abortion.
i) Prohibit public funding of abortions and public funding of organizations that advocate or perform abortions.
X j) Support "buffer-zones" by requiring demonstrators to stay at least five feet from abortion clinic doorways and driveways.
X k) Provide funding for family planning programs as a means to decrease the number of abortions.

So, abortion is ALWAYS ok - not just the first trimester. Talk about overturning Roe v. Wade - the dude tosses it out completely. Courage? No. Cheap way out. Unprincipled and unthinking. To put a term on it, Marky boy, your position sucks - literally. Own stock in the Abortion Vacuum Company?

Ah, here's a good one:

Budget, Spending and Tax Issues, Part 3: Budget Surplus. Indicate your priorities for spending any anticipated federal budget surplus.

Low Priority a) Defense
High Priority b) Education
Highest Priority c) Federal debt reduction
High Priority d) Medicare
High Priority e) Social Security
Medium Priority f) Tax cuts

Now, the very nature of a surplus means that you took from us more money than you needed. That's not good, Marky boy. You understand that, right? I like that paying down the amounts you spent before beyond what you took is your highest priority. But after that, Marky boy, you're supposed to GIVE IT BACK TO US. NOT RE-SPEND IT. Education, Medicare, and Social Security are expenditures. To put a term on it, Marky boy, your priorities suck.

We're going to pull just one answer from the following section:

Employment and Affirmative Action Issues. Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding employment and affirmative action.

X c) Reduce government regulation of the private sector in order to encourage investment and economic expansion.

I think I just had a stroke. I need a minute ... OK, sorry, was gone for two days. The MRI was clean, but they wanted to hold me for observation. Pisses me off that nobody feeds the cat when I am away. Where was I?

Marky boy, brother, babe, listen closely. Get up close to the screen. YOU JUST VOTED TO REGULATE THE ENERGY, CONSTRUCTION, AND AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRIES! MORON! (I mean that in the clinical sense.) Have I got to pull you travel records and see if you're doing a Sanford thing in some South American country? Only that would explain your complete abdication of your principles on this vote ... unless, of course, your response above was lie. Hadn't thought about that. Did you lie, Marky boy?

Another partial list of responses:

Environmental Issues. Indicate which principles you support (if any) regarding America's environment and natural resources.

g) Strengthen emission controls on all gasoline or diesel-powered engines, including cars, trucks, and sport utility vehicles.
h) Promote the selling of pollution credits between nations to encourage industries to decrease pollution levels.

There ain't no "X"s there, Marky boy. Yet your Waxman vote PUT them there. Who you banging? Who's blackmailing you? That's the only possibility here. C'mon - out with it!

Here's comes the litmus test:

Gun Issues. Indicate which principles you support (if any) concerning gun issues.

a) Ban the sale or transfer of semi-automatic guns, except those used for hunting.
X b) Maintain and strengthen the enforcement of existing federal restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
c) Ease federal restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
d) Repeal federal restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
e) Allow citizens to carry concealed guns.
X f) Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks on guns.
X g) Increase penalties for the possession of any illegal guns.
X h) Hold gun owners responsible for crimes committed with their guns by children age 16 and under.
X i) Raise the minimum age for ownership of handguns from 18 to 21.
X j) Require background checks of gun buyers at gun shows.
X k) Require a license for gun possession.

F MINUS. You fail. Explain to me, Marky boy, where the United States Constitution, 2d Amendment, says anything about the age of majority? Here, let me help you:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

"People." It reads "People." Is an 18 year old not a "People" person? And you fell for the "gun-show loophole" libtard statement? Marky boy, we are free to buy and sell guns by and amongst ourselves as free "people" without any registration requirement. Happens all the time. This gun-show malarkey has nothing to do with gun shows - it is trying to require every gun transaction to be regulated. Get it? Are you THAT dense? In a term, Marky boy, your 2d Amendment position sucks.

BTW, Marky boy, the National Rifle Association gives you a grade of F, and the Gun Owners of America give you the coveted rating of F-.

Here's an interesting tidbit from the "Courage" test:

Term Limit Issues

No. Do you support amending the Constitution to limit the number of terms which members of Congress can serve?

Like your job, Marky boy? Weasel.

Conclusion: This boy gotta go. Ain't no conservative; ain't no republican.

My other profiles: "Mike" Castle and Mary Bono Mack.

It is so great that we can expose how they are voting , serve notice on them, and campaign against them. These pretenders need to go find another ladder to climb and instead of them kissing butt I want them to kiss mine. As for Ohios benedicts I have already started and thank them for rattling my cage because they have no idea how thorough I can be.

Sounds like a threat, Cathleen - that's wonderful! Write me if you get some meat on the hook ... be happy to help spread the word.

Why aren't more conservatives angry about him going to a foreign country and attempting to undermine our government? That's called treason and just because the lawfully elected president is of the other party, does not make it less treason or even remotely right.

Mark Kirk went to a foreign country and actively sought to shake their faith in our government and "conservatives" don't seem bothered by that at all.

Well this conservative is and let me tell you something, I'm sick of all the "conservatives" who put PARTY above COUNTRY and that's exactly what Mark Kirk did with his wreckless attempt to shake our major trading partners faith in us.

Anyone who calls themselves a "conservative" but doesn't what was wrong with Mark Kirk and his China bit, is not a conservative at all, but merely a republican loyalist.

You don't go to communist countries and talk trash about your own, unless you're Jane Fonda or Mark Kirk. Every conservative who stood silent about that should be asha

Benjamin, I agree with you completely. I'll tell you, this is my 3d in the series and I am appalled at the people calling themselves pubs as they hold office. Seems a title of convenience because they sure at not walking the walk.

This article is a joke. Kirk's *self-funded* campaign (which barely received any money from national GOP thanks to purists like yourself) and his supporters helped keep my district out of the hands of a nationally-backed and machine-funded Democrat who makes Kirk look like Barry Goldwater.

Mocking him for "barely" hanging on to his seat (one of a small handful of Republicans nationwide to not only win re-election during the Obama-fueled GOP slaughter that was November 2008 but actually, unthinkably, EXPANDED his 2006 margin of victory) because he raised so much money is one of the most asinine attempts to insult a courageous politician I could have ever imagined.

Maybe you think the party or the country would be better served if we kicked out popular, solid-fundraising, incumbents because they vote their Constituents' views instead of yours 100%. I don't.

Thankfully, few people listen to creepy, no-name bloggers who crawl out of the woodwork to ankle bite respectable Congressm

Andrew, I am not a Republican, and thank you, I enjoy my readership throughout the blogosphere. I trust you merely read and not commit your feelings to writing anywhere but comments. Be it as it may ...

I am a conservative. This clown voted for a bill which can bankrupt this country - and he didn't read it. How do I know? Because 300 pages of amendments were proffered which almost no one read.

I write about my beliefs. I don't support this politician. He doesn't follow my views. I am merely reporting his voting record. Good for you, though, that he will be vacating the seat this term for a run at the Senate. Doubt he'll win - but best of luck!
