8 questions press corp should ask Glenn Coffee

Oklahoma Senate Republicans get the ball rolling today in the run-up to the legislative session. They’ll be talking about their agenda: it’s believed job creation, energy stabilization and government reform will headline the GOP effort.

But here’s what everybody really wants to know: will Glenn Coffee come unhinged this session?

The Senate Leader, an embarrassment to Republicans and last year’s poster boy for unethical behavior, Coffee managed to limp through the session without getting kicked out as President Pro Tempore despite revelations he was a tax cheat. Despite the near miss, he’s still at it: in a December report, OKPNS revealed insight into Coffee’s off the wall bullying offensive. Insiders say Coffee has been acting like as last days Nixon because State Sen. Harry Coates stands a good chance to defeat Coffee’s handpicked successor, Sen. Brian Bingman of Sapulpa.

Sen. Bingman is having tremendous difficulty within the Republican caucus garnering the necessary numbers because he will bring back Coffee Consigliore Fred Morgan, the $140,000 state employee who advises Coffee and specializes in offending virtually every organization he comes into contact with, except a cadre of frat buddies who play remora to Morgan’s tiger shark.

So here’s some advice for the intrepid Capitol Press Corps: ask Sen. Coffee about the battle to succeed him and ignore the legislative fluff. Everybody wants to know more about how Coffee is trying to help Bingman and hurt Coates since our report revealed Coffee’s Nixon-like threat to “burn down the house” if he doesn’t get Bingman elected as pro tem.

Perhaps the press corps will ask him precisely what house he’ll be torching. Early indications are that Coffee and Morgan, who regard mental health and substance abuse services the same way Bill Clinton regarded wedding vows, are indeed working diligently to cut services to some of Oklahoma’s most vulnerable, ultimately shoving many of that population into the state’ s prison system and massively increasing costs. Somewhere Ronald Reagan must be rolling in his grave. Edward R. Murrow too.

OKPNS recently received detailed insight into Coffee’s real agenda and what his little network of minions is up to. Keeping the unpopular Morgan in his current position after Coffee terms out seems to be job one for the embattled pro tem. Why Coffee is fighting the Coates bid in such a bizarre manner is yet to be revealed, but we know even this press corps is aware of the Coffee problem, and it’s time for them actually ask some hard questions about this brewing scandal.
