Recall petition of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin started

Recall Ray Nagin petition?

The group Children of The Sky has started a recall effort of New Orleans Mayor

Ray Nagin ,they plan on submitting their petition to  the Secretary Of State

to remove New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin from office before the 2010 election. They

seem to have a grass roots campaign going that uses INTERNET web 2.0

technology to get the word out.It looks like  their petition is spreading all over the

INTERNET very fast.Prior attempts to oust the 2 term mayor from office have failed

either because of lack of interest or not enough votes. The groups

spokesperson says they only need 5000 votes before they take it to New

Orleans City Council  and then Secretary of State to be ratified and voted on

publicly.Stranger things  have happened will will see.

The group cites problems in the mayor's technology and other ethics violations

by the mayor as their reason for starting petition."We want to act before Ray Nagin gets out of office and little can be done"

they said .Sign petition.

While I understand the anger over the email fiasco and certainly acknowledge the dysfunctional relationship between the mayor and the City Council, a recall effort seems like political grandstanding and I doubt it's a genuine "grassroots effort." If pursued, what a waste of tax payer money on a lame duck mayor, and an unnecessarily divisive action that will cause more harm than good at this late hour.
