Massive government corruption hidden by focus on Goldman-Sachs

As the country's attention is directed to the Goldman-Sachs scandal, a much greater story lurks beneath the surface involving massive government corruption that makes Wall Street firms pale in comparison.

(AP Photo/Charles Dharapak). Sen. Chris Dodd, D-CT.

The current government of the United States of America under the leadership of Barack Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress is the single most corrupt entity in the nation, worse than all of the private sector scandals combined.

One would be hard-pressed to find an era of U.S history when government was any more corrupt than it is at present.

The manner in which Obama and Congress passed the healthcare bill is a case in point, but only the tip of the iceberg.  ObamaCare was approved by the use of bribes, buy-offs, under-the-table deals, preferential treatment given to politicians sitting on the fence, etc., etc.

Ben Nelson, Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu, Bart Stupak, and others were clearly bribed by the Chicago thugs that hold top offices in the Obama Administration.

Blanche Lincoln, by the way, the Democrat from Arkansas, accepted Goldman-Sachs campaign contributions and stated that she had no intention of giving it back.

However, with the current controversy surrounding the charges against Goldman-Sachs, which by the way was Barack Obama and the Democrats' largest contributor during the campaign of '08, a much larger scandal involving government has taken a back seat, at least in the mainstream media.

Senator Chris Dodd, D-CT, was one of the main players in the Fannie Mae, FreddieMac, Countrywide mortgage fiasco--accepting sweet deals from the mortgage giants while carefully covering up any problem in the subprime mortgage sector, and then being among the first to push the massive taxpayer-funded bailouts after the crisis hit.

It just so happens that Chris Dodd is also one of the main players in Congress pushing for new, sweeping government regulations of the nation's financial sector--a move that has the GOP demanding to see records of SEC contacts with Dodd, Congressional Democrats, the White House, the DNC, and the NYT.

But who is regulating government?  If Chris Dodd is one of the heavyweights behind the push for government regulation, then who is there to regulate the actions of corrupt politicians who benefit handsomely from sweet deals while at the same time giving Wall Street firms assurances that should they get in trouble again, the government will always be around to bail them out?

It is important to note that the new regulatory bill contains language that promises permanent and automatic taxpayer-funded bailouts should the firms ever again experience a 'crisis.'  Americans For Tax Reform is urging the defeat of the bill.

And then there is Barack Obama himself, who is the recipient of a cool one million bucks from none other than Goldman-Sachs.  Critics are calling on Obama to return the dirty money.

But even that would not remove Obama from under a dark cloud of suspicion.  Timothy Geithner, Obama's hand-picked Treasury-Secretary--and the one who did not pay his taxes--is up to his keister in Goldman-Sachs entanglements.

When it comes to Congress, this is the very entity that gave us the trillion-dollar bailouts, which the American people overwhelmingly opposed, the ObamaCare bill, which the American people also opposed, and that is now considering a cap and trade scheme that will cost Americans an added $3000 bucks per year in energy costs.

Americans are hard-pressed to find any reason to trust this Congress to regulate anything at all, particularly given its utterly dismal approval ratings in all of the polls.

In fact, 3 out of 4 Americans now say they cannot trust their government in Washington, and that includes the Congress, the President, and the Courts.

The reason for that distrust is clear--the corruption exhibited by this government (and Democrats have controlled both houses of Congress since 2006) is enough to make one's head spin.

Perhaps the focus on Goldman-Sachs and 'those evil capitalist companies' is a convenient way for the current crop of government crooks to continue their raping of the public treasury--an unconscionable scandal that has sent the U.S. debt load to dangerous levels for generations to come.

Many who now serve in Congress and in this Administration belong in jail, frankly.  Had they worked for private corporations that is precisely where they would be.

Thus, how does the Goldman-Sachs 'scandal' in any way deserve the level of attention it now receives when the real crooks are in the government?

Best guess is that this civil suit against the Vampire Squid is intended as cover for the so-called Financial Reforms that this regime is going to try to put through. Bills written by and for the benefit of the industry itself. The R Party, if they pursue this demand for ALL the communications between the D party and the financial perps, the SEC, the Fed and the Government, will be doing the right thing. They won't actually GET anything of course - just as Bill Clinton stonewalled for years, so will the Obama regime. But it'll keep the issue front and center with voters, and that's what will count the most in the end. The one thing I dread is, in the event that a TEA party government is elected in November, and that Government starts the criminal prosecutions that these people so richly deserve, they'll take a page from the last days of the Third Reich, scorching the earth as they are marched off to jail.

I earnestly hope and pray that, as a result of this year's midterm elections, we see dozens in this Administration prosecuted, convicted, and hauled off to jail for their misdeeds against the American people and the U.S. economy. What they are doing is criminal.

"One would be hard-pressed to find an era of U.S history when government was any more corrupt than it is at present."

Only if one were unable to open a basic American History text.

    Grant?
    Harding?
    Nixon?
    LBJ?
    Andrew Jackson?
    Reagan?
    Bush II?

Corruption respects neither party nor ideology - only greed - and many administrations have been rife with it.

You are a complete idiot if you think ANY of those administrations come close to the corruption in the Obama Administration--just more of your usual diversionary BS to prevent any serious consideration of what is happening NOW. The past is gone. This is NOW!

Anthony Martin, like most Americans, is grossly ignorant of history! The most corrupt government ever....? Think !! The government of Roosevelt had foreknowledge of the Pearl Harbor “event” [see John Toland's Infamy]. Before that was the Republican president whose war against the south killed hundreds of thousands of his own people. See Lincolnism Today by Conservative historian Daniel Larison. Maybe the point should be that the American people today are the most corrupt people in history. Where is the outrage for: an openly stolen election, two wars based on well-exposed lies, hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians killed as a result of the lies, even admitted to by General McChrystal [see “We’ve killed an amazing number...and none....”]. Not to mention all the torture. Since the people have tolerated all these crimes against humanity, it is the American people themselves who should not ever be trusted.

I'd say YOU were the one who is a blind idot, fatboy. The biggest problem with you neo-"conservatives" is your lack of knowledge, or more often, denial of history. America's biggest problem is it learns nothing from it's mistakes. I imagine that's a problem for you too.

YOU brought up the past - and nothing this administration has done to date comes close to the rampant corruption of Grant or Harding.

And if "the past is gone" - why the attempt to hang Dodd with the mortgage debacle? (He certainly bears a share of the responsibility - but so do a number of Republicans.)

When you use excess hype, you lose credibility - though you don't seem to care about credibility anyway.

HUH--YOU are 'credible?' Give me a break. Dodd's dealings with the Wall Street firms is CURRENT and RELEVANT because he never answered for his misdeeds and he is now pushing for 'reform' of the very entities he benefited from. I think my credibility is as solid as a rock on this issue. WHO are YOU trying to protect? Which of the current government crooks are you trying to enable?

    Anthony,
You have not heard me singing Obamer’s praises, have you? If you don’t want to discuss the past, don’t make false claims about it!! Your ignorance is your fault, not mine or Farmer’s. James Madison said:“We are free today substantially, but the day will come when our Republic will be an impossibility. It will be an impossibility because wealth will be concentrated in the hands of a few. A republic can not stand upon bayonets, and when that day comes, when the wealth of the nation will be in the hands of a few, then we must rely upon the wisdom of the best elements in the country to readjust the laws of the nation to the changed conditions.” Learn the truth about the founding of the nation and maybe you, too, can aspire to be among the “best elements” that Madison spoke of. Until you become informed, the problem lies with the numbskull looking back at you in the mirror.

More from James Madison, Father of the Constitution, that needs to be known because, Anthony, he is speaking to us now--can't you see that? Madison: "Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other.
War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honours, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people...
[There is also] an inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and...degeneracy of manners and of morals...No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."

Still the same old cross party head butting, "It's all your political party's fault". Will any of you realize this is old school divide and conquer? We are toast because people can't get off of their high horses and truly see what is happening. There is no chance of ever having this wrong righted. This country is "owned". Our politicians have as much power as they are allowed to have. Our politicians are not in charge of anything. They are "all" bought and paid for. If you can't understand you are being politically hood winked, you will not be able to grasp who is really running the program. If you are to ever have any idea what is going on you first have to look within your own party and find the faults that lie within. Couple those admissions with the accusations that you have of the opposing party and you will have your sum. Always remember what Deepthroat said, "Follow the money". Also, the ever so blunt George Carlin, "It's a big f@#king club and YOU ain't in it".

Thea--in your case a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Your focus on corruption in the past does absolutely nothing but serve to hide the corruption of the PRESENT. And THAT is ignorance. I have done nothing but extol the virtues of the Founding Fathers...time after time...if you had taken the time to read. But no, you swoop in uninformed and ignorant of what I have said and then proceed to discount my shining the light on the current corruption because, in your view, others in the past have been more corrupt.

    That is just plain stupid.

Tommy Thompson--Well, let me see, now, how far back to you wish to go? Let's try Bill Clinton, shall we? It was under Clinton that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT began to pressure mortgage lenders to approve nearly everyone who applied for a loan, whether they could repay or not. Sure, the policy continued under Bush, but it started in earnest during the 1990s, which spurred the so-called 'housing boom.' Funny how a 'boom' can go KAPUT when the chickens come home to roost.

These may be the most corrupt politicians ever however some things do not make sense to me.
Didn't Geithner pay his taxes - late but paid?
If someone gives you campaign money in 08 - wouldn't you have spent it already?
If they bought you, they didn't get a very good bargain because they are tryint to control them through federal restrictions. Using quotes around "evil capitalist companies" to indicate that you do not think them so as you did not say it. What kind of practices would a company have to engage in for them to be considered evil in your eyes?

You write an article and everyone can see that messages in the “comments section” are more thoughtful and authentic than anything you, the alleged reporter, said!! You yourself brought up the past and then resorted to mindless blather [like a typical conservative] when your own gross lack of knowledge of the past is exposed. I won’t waste my time trying to help you advance your thinking ability because your writing clearly shows that you have none. I also plan to write to WRH and ask them to explain why they would post a link to your pathetically shallow column.

It seems to me the 40 years of democrat control from the 60's till 1994 set in stone their connections to big business and big money, and all I've been given my entire life is one big fat phony democrat and media spin machine set of lies.
I conclude the democrats figure that their pradva plus like proletariat stance gives them complete absolution when they play hanky panky under the sheets with wall street and big business and every government billion dollar program, and pay for it with everyone else's money, or just fake printed up inflate and borrow IOU's.

“Methinks”--Anthony, that’s a falsehood! You react and in a paranoid fashion.[I came across a link to your column at the aforementioned site].And your assumption is that I’m being paid to do this-LOL! “....discredit, divert, destroy...” That’s what conservatives do to themselves. Oh yes, many people make lots of money fooling you—Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity... Me? I wondered if it was possible to get a self-proclaimed conservative to actually think--even just a tad--I was pretty sure that you’d have no reason to listen to me because gosh, gee I might be an internet spy. But James Madison...what would a conservative have to say about those two quotes? Now you’ve given me the answer-–nothing–-because those quotes show stunningly that the Founding Fathers were not the worshipers of wealth and war that you false patriots are. I had thought of suggesting you google conservative Michael Lind Have and Have Not..but if James Madison’s warnings don’t move you nothing will. It is you who is lost
