Explosive information hit the radio airwaves today as it was revealed that Texas gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina appeared to confirm in an interview that she is a so-called '9/11 truther.' The interview was conducted by Glenn Beck on the radio.

Immediately the Internet was burning up with quick responses both from Medina supporters and from those who jumped to the conclusion that the candidate had 'outed' herself as part of a movement which believes that the U.S. government had a hand in bringing about the terrorist attack on 9/11.
The transcripts of the interview seem to indicate that those who believe Medina is a 'truther' have been vindicated. However, the audio of the interview, as provided at the link in the first paragraph, seems to portray a slightly different angle.
Beck no doubt believes that Medina admitted to being a truther, as indicated by his follow-up questions and the comments he made on the air after the Medina interview.
Medina herself, however, maintains she admitted no such thing.
To be fair, listening to the audio of the interview seems to confirm Medina's contention. The interview was fast-paced with Beck often interrupting and appearing to overlook the fact that the candidate clearly stated she is not a 9/11 truther, although she admits that the movement has raised some good questions that need to be answered.
And when Medina seemed to indicate that she would not purge her campaign of truthers, if she found any, Beck immediately jumped to the conclusion that Medina 'is a truther.' At that point, the interview was over as Beck essentially wrote off Medina as a viable candidate.
Nothing in the interview indicates that Beck deliberately set-up Medina. His flaw was the sloppiness with which which he conducted the interview and the knee-jerk reaction of branding Medina as a truther.
Beck's question was a fair one. Citizens need to know if their candidates are truthers and why.
However, stating that some truthers have good questions that need to be answered is not tantamount to admitting being part of the movement. Stating that there is no truther litmus test for campaign workers is no indication that a candidate believes that the U.S. government perpetrated the 9/11 attack.
No doubt Medina could have answered Beck's questions more effectively. And Beck could have been much more professional in the manner in which he went about conducting this interview.

hawaiian: Am i a truther if you would ask, NO. Yes the answer is easy. However, there are questions that are valid, and have not been answered. Some have to do with Building 7, others with the fall rate of the towers under the perceived loads, even more about the "perceived loads." None of these point to a gov't involvement conspiracy, but are "unanswered" questions. I am concerned about the speed at which so much was "known" about the hijackers. I do not doubt they did what is accused, but am concerned about the rate, speed and reliability of the information. Compare it to the gov't stories after OK City, or earlier WTC attacks. None of this is conspiritorial, all have gaps and flaws that a concerned populace could benefit from the answers. Questions are not conspiracy, they are questions. The people who ask them cannot be instantly labeled as kooks or knowledge turns to assumption and we all loose.
Candidates are not allowed yes or no answers when going anywhere near fox news.If she had said no, he would have found away to use that to beat her up after she was gone. BabyBeck wasn't interested in her answer he was intereted in the answer he wanted.

What's with all the political correctness when somebody asks valid questions about 9/11? I'm not saying Bush orchestrated 9/11, but there are questions that remain unanswered, mainly because people get all PC and condemn anyone who asks as total loons. And since conservatives hate PC, shouldn't they support people who ask these questions? If not, conservatives are hypocritical b/c they're the ones who are being PC.

Let's start with John Farmer (9/11 Commission Counsel) who has stated that the FAA and NORAD changed their official 9/11 chronology a day after meeting with the White House, in order to match up with timelines provided by Dick Cheney. Does this have anything to do with Norman Mineta's (Transportation Sec.) Congressional testimony that Cheney was in the NORAD bunker significantly earlier than Cheney claims? Maybe to cover-up the fact that Mineta claims that Cheney was personally giving the order to stand down our national defenses as a plane approached the Pentagaon perhaps? Questions like this are just the tip of the iceberg, a very, very large iceberg.

Clearly Beck is a hack who tried to set up Medina for a smear. Why would Beck or anyone else focus an interview on 9/11 questions? 9/11 has nothing to do with the Texas governor's race or the governor's job. 9/11 is not an issue that Medina has ever brought up or made an issue of. I disagree with this article's assertion that citizens need to know, for every candidate for any office, if they are a "truther" or not. The label "truther" is very ambiguous. This is simple McCarthyism, labelling people as "truthers" versus "non-truthers." This sounds like a kindergarten game to me labeling people this way.

Ok, we can all say the simple answer is no. But it's not always that simple. She admit she was caught off guard but she said no. Shame on Beck for creating spin. He conducts his interviews much like his counterpart O' Reilly. I used to watch Bill until I realized that all he did was invite people onto his show so he could attack and belittle them. That's not the purpose of a true journalist. Their purpose is to disseminate information without bias. There was clearly bias here. And Debra had all the right in the world to say there were questions that still need to be asked. Since when was it wrong to ask questions of our government? That's what gets its citizens in trouble!

No change from me. I liked Medina after her performance in the debate. Regardless of if she is a truther or not, there are elements of the anti-establishment movement that are going to seem a little fringe - but on pure policy, Medina has Perry and hutchinson beat...
My question is this: Does this make Perry or Hutchinson good for Texas or the Conservative/Libertarian cause?
The answer is NO.
Does it mean that Median needs to play clean-up? Yes... and she has started with a comment on her webpage - and she should re-contact Glenn beck and have a segment where she can address him, the race, and her position once again (which was actually good up until she started talking about mind control).
Was this an ambush - maybe. Was it intentional - I think so. And again, does this make Perry or Hutch a good candidate? Not at all...
Mr. Martin, your comments in your response to Beck's interview today are well founded and well balanced. As is typical of DRIVE BY MEDIA, the Piranhas smelled blood in the water. It is important to note that Medina was cordial, communicative, did well at contrasting her stances with that of other candidates for governor and she professed that her focus was on the current issues affecting Texans and NOT issues up for national debate.

I didn't care for the Glen Beck attack, Debra is a great Candidate and Beck is an Intertainer. We need more people to Question the government and less people who put candidates down that refuse to attack them. Glen will show his true NEOCON colors again and disavow those that want Constitutional values and small government. Sounds like he wants Property Tax just like he wanted a new VAT Tax like the EU.
Medina handled the 9-11 question with poise and I was very satisfied with her fair-minded response. When I first started watching Glenn Beck I definitely thought he was a neo-con but in the last few months it seems that he has moderated some of his more totalitarian ideals and come closer to the libertarian way of thinking. I guess I was a bit confused about his sincerity and his true political leanings but his interview with Medina yesterday showed his hand pretty clearly.
I know that Beck is intelligent enough to realize that the 9-11 Commission was a farce and that the commissioners themselves even admit as much. John Farmer, senior council to the 9-11 Commission has been quoted as saying “the public had been seriously misled about what occurred during the morning of the attacks,” and Farmer himself states that “at some level of the government, at some point in time…there was an agreement not to tell the truth about what happened.”
That being said, I think it is reasonable to
further investigate 9-11 in a scientific manner without regard to emotions or politics. They already told us that we were lied to - therefore that step doesn't seem quite so offbeat to me.
Regardless, Beck chose to attempt to bully Medina into saying that she was a 9-11 'truther' despite the fact - as Medina herself stated - that issue has absolutely nothing to do with the Texas Governor's race. Then, when Medina declined to take a firm stand on the issue he tried to paint her as a rabid 9-11 truther.
We are not stupid, Mr. Beck. We know who and what you represent. Glenn Beck set up Medina. I listened to the audio, and I could tell from the nuances in his voice, how he steered his line of questioning quickly to the "truther" question and hammered at it and shut her down after getting a snippet of text that could be construed as a "yes," and, finally, by how few questions he had relating to more specific state of Texas policy questions. Most of what she said champions the issues Beck has been talking about over the last year that I've been listening to him. Beck woke me up, and I am grateful for that. However, it seems someone has gotten to him or else he is a consummate fraud. I now understand why Michael Savage and Alex Jones can't stand him.

Why do citizens need to know if their candidates are truthers? Being a full fledged 100% truther or not being one at all is irrelevant to the issues that concern texans. It has no effect on our state laws.
