Omar Hammami is back in the news again. Remember him? He was the subject of an article in this column a couple of months ago. Read the original article here.
With the recent interest in Anwar al-Awalaki and his clear cut hate rhetoric for the United States Hammami has begun to gain some notoriety. Authorities are considering that he become the next big target for America to take out covertly along with al-Awalaki.
The issue is if we go after these guys and kill them what would be the fall out considering they are American citizens. Some believe we cannot target them because they have constitutional rights.
Taking a politically correct view toward those who want to kill us only works in the favor of the enemy and not the innocent.
For example, military authorities did nothing about Nidal Hassan at Fort Hood, choosing instead to ignore some very disturbing indications of this individual. Now there are thirteen innocent people gunned down for the sake of Hassan’s warped idea of Muslim vengeance.
Hassan had constitutional rights, and the authorities took a politically correct view in deciding not to challenge them.
We should make a special effort to eliminate those on the battlefield who think they are doing this in the name of Islam. Hammami, al-Awlaki, Adam Gaddan, and the many other Americans who have decided to stand against their own people should be taken down like the dogs that they are.
Nidal Hassan needs to be executed for his crime. But, also we should be looking at this as another warning shot across our bow.
The potential to create more Nidal Hassan’s and Omar Hammami’s in this country is a huge problem. There might be as many as 200,000 young Muslim Americans who are thinking about Jihad right now. That’s right, hundreds of thousands. Do you think this is hyperbole? Check this out here.
We should be taking a very hard look at the American Muslim community to ferret out those that will turn the way of Nidal Hassan and Omar Hammami. They need to be put away permanently before they can get a chance to hurt any innocent people.
Ignoring this problem will not make it go away, it will only get worse.
